I also found out that, if you enroll in a degree program an NMJC and are a resident of a state that participates in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE), you can get in-state tuition—even as an online student. The WUE website says you will pay 150% of in-state, but when I asked the NMJC registrar about it, she said they just charge in-state to residents of WUE states.

It's not a huge discount, but if you are taking a lot of classes/completing your associates at NMJC, it helps.

I puttered around the WUE website to find out about discounts on online degree completion at other schools, but most seem to have lots of restrictions—the discount may only be available for one type of degree, or only to "in the seat" students.

Normally WUE is for students who opt to go out-of-state to a school that participates, so they're generally butt-in-seat classes.  Also, it's normally limited to specific degrees - so for instance, I have a student I'm working with to get her BSN after getting her AA.  Both schools she was looking at for WUE (one in ID, one in AZ) don't let BSN students use it.

But it's a great deal if you can get it, and many of the schools give it to you automatically (meaning you don't have to compete with others, they just give you the lower tuition if you're from a WUE state).

Other areas of the country do this as well.
WUE - Western Undergraduate Exchange (AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MT, NV, NM, ND, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY)
RSP - New England Regional Student Program (CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT)
Academic Common Market (AL, AR, DE, GA, KY, LA, MD, MS, OK, SC, TN, VA, WV)
Midewest Student Exchange program (IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, WI)

Sorry NY, NJ, PA and DC - no programs for you!

In Newark NJ the University of Maine has billboards advertising the same cost to NJ residents as instate Rutgers.  Big Grin
