Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had experience completing the CBE BS in either Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education at ETAMU. If so I was wondering if you could tell me your experiences with how "acceleratable" it is. I already have a previous Bachelors degree and I don‘t have need for the licensure pathway so in your opinion could it be done in 1-2 terms? Also, does anyone know if the Texas Government course is waived with other GE requirements for a second bachelors?
Thanks for all the help!

Good afternoon,
For those of you who have previously or are currently pursuing a bachelors through ETAMU (formerly TAMUC), how long did it take for your academic advisor to assign you a third course after completing the first two (having sent the completion emails and the request email to accelerate into the next course)?

Years ago you were able to be assigned two classes at a time and you continued with two at a time so that if you were waiting on a professor to grade something you were able to work on another course. Now it's two at the beginning but once those first two are complete you are only able to be assigned one course and you must wait on the advisor to verify the completion emails and then assign you the next course. This new method of only having one course and then being down for 3-4 days due to it being a weekend is less than efficient. Another change noted is that years ago you could accelerate into a new course up until the Friday of the 6th week. Now you must complete all assignments/projects by the Wednesday of the 5th week so that things are hopefully graded by Friday morning of the 5th week for a new class to be assigned that day.

off the soapbox now. What has your experience been when accelerating into a new course.

For various reasons, I'm limiting myself to state universities, so I think these are the only CBE type degrees, and that's why I'm only comparing these two. Wondering if one or the other is much more clunky to work through. Thanks!

The multiple choice questions are pretty straightforward but then I reached the 2 open ended questions, and they were incredibly specific to two reading, and were impossible to answer without referencing the reading material within the course.

The syllabus is somewhat vague, it doesn't say we can't use course material or outside sources , it just says we can't copy/paste, plagiarize etc.

Good morning everyone.

I am a 36 year old who within the last month or so got the itch to finish what I started over a decade ago. I earned over 60 credits from a CC in NJ and after weeks and weeks of research, I came across Competency Based Learning. I eventually also found East Texas A&M and since I currently reside in TX, it was a no brainer to apply to this institution.

Now, my last big decision to make is which program to pursue. My initial plan was General Studies (GSCB) because my initial motive was 'just get it over with' , basically I just wanted 'any' degree so I could check it off in a possible job application. However upon further thought, I see that many folks opt for doing the Organizational Leadership (ORGL) program because it is apparently even easier and has a little bit more 'specialization' , which would give it a boost when applying for certain jobs or positions.

The good news is that ETAMU essentially accepts all of my credits (60+) in most programs it appears. But , when I utilize the DegreeWorks page, there is some confusion on my part. There are 2 options under the Areas of Study menu, when choosing the Major on the dropdown, there are 2 options for ORGL. When I choose the first one, it essentially accepts all of my transfer credits (just like for Gen Studies) which is great. But it also lists that there are Language requirements, which is odd because according to the official ETAMU page, it specifically states there are no language requirements. When I select the 2nd option for ORGL on the same dropdown menu, it only accepts about half of my transfer credits, and also has the same language requirements.

Can someone help me understand better which are the requirements for the ORGL Competency based program? If they indeed accept all of my credits just like the GSCB program , I would most likely opt for that option. But the degreeworks page is throwing me off.

I am officially enrolled to the General Studies program (GSCB) but the term doesn't begin until Jan 12, so I think I still have some time to change programs.

Thank you to everyone ahead of time, happy Sunday.

Does anyone know if ETAMU still does this? I’ll be starting next term and just want to make sure how it works. If it really affects GPA, that sounds like a nice way to give it a little boost! ?

Hey everyone! I saw someone mention that ETAMU actually pulled in grades from StraighterLine and that those grades counted toward their GPA. I’ve honestly never heard of that before — I thought StraighterLine credits usually transfer as “Pass” only.
Does anyone know if ETAMU still does this? I’ll be starting next term and just want to make sure how it works. If it really affects GPA, that sounds like a nice way to give it a little boost! ?
Thanks in advance for any info or personal experience! ?

I'm an early high school graduate waiting for my diploma so I can officially start at ETAMU. Right now, I'm taking classes on STUDY to get ahead. Does anyone know which classes from STUDY transfer well to ETAMU or are good to start with? Thank you so much for any advice!

It's been a long time since I made a post on here. We just got home from the summer 25 graduation at ETAMU. Our oldest son completed his degree in General Studies and graduated on Saturday. He transferred in 11 hours from community college and was able to complete Sophia courses and ETAMU classes and graduate in less than a year. He also received his Summa Cum Laude medal, and was proud to wear it during graduation and all day Saturday.

It was a great weekend for our family, and we are so proud of our son for finishing his degree.

Hi Everyone,

My little cousin lives in texas just graduated high school and I convinced her to take a ton of sophia credit during the summmer. She has about 70+ credits both between her AP courses and Sophia and was about to start applying to schools in texas. I told her to try out ETAMU! Do you guys know if they take Sophia credit? I read a post a few years back that TAMUC may not accept sophia credits anymore but I cant find that post. Thank you!
