New Mexico goes tuition-free
#11
It's actually interesting because part of the problem was the New Mexico lottery scholarship was running out of money. This became sort of a saving grace that will hopefully help the economy. It seems like the way it's currently set up students still must have graduated either high School or completed an equivalency such as the GED or HiSet. What I would like to see is for the governor to say that all inmates will be able to get this free as well. So far that has not been explicitly outlined and the Metropolitan detention Center has no director of education nor anyone that seems to understand online education enough to make it happen. Literally the situation is infuriating, especially considering the fact that MDC has been understaffed and over occupied not to mention the inmate deaths that have occurred. More needs to be done to implement education and financial management learning in these facilities.

Actually this isn't true.

Every Community College gets to decide how they want to use the California Promise funding.
They can use the funds for student support services for example.
The CC's aren't free where I live.

I wish there were a list somewhere that identified which community colleges offered free tuition because I would have my son take courses online through them.
