Hey everybody! Here's the down low for the Chemistry CLEP
1. Study Problem solving i.e. Stoichiometry
2. A lot of questions on reduction and oxidation numbers
3. Valence electrons and orbital shells
4. Tons and tons of chemical reactions like which one would produce a reaction. Note: some are impossible to tell but a little process of elimination will definently help
5. At least 5-6 ?s on Thermodynamics, exothermic and endothermic stuff, enthalpy and entropy
6. 3 ?s on Equilibrium. Know how to convert into fraction thing
7. Amphoterism
8. States of matter like which will dissolve first.
9. Some ?s on types of bonds, bonding, and what the bonds will look like i.e. tetrahedra, linear, etc.
10. Nuclear type stuff like half-lives and calucations.
I would like to point out that a calculator is given in the exam which is enough to do the problems and a reference of the periodic table of elements is also there to help. Some of the answers were easy to eliminate based upon significant figures and obvious wrong ones, so don't get discouraged if you don't know the answer. I took this exam cold and finished in about 20 minutes. I thought it was not harder than the AP Chemistry exam but should not be taken lightly. I took Chemistry 201 in freshman year in collge so failing this exam is no biggy. 75 questions in 1.5 hours. Very do-able. Just remember to try your best and skip the ones you don't know (like organic chemistry). Good Luck!
