Meanwhile I just cancelled Paramount+ because if they're not producing new Star Trek series, they have no purpose.

I don't have Paramount+, but was thinking that I would be tempted by the student rate if they hadn't just cut a bunch of Star Trek programming. Great minds make their Paramount+ decisions based on Star Trek, or however the saying goes.

Many of the more recent Star Trek series have had a somewhat different tone than did the Berman-era series from 1987 through 2005 that were beloved by Generation X nerds like myself. Plus today's rotten-to-the-core social media culture leads anything new to be derided by so-called fans who are unfairly weighing anything new against older shows that have the unassailable advantage of nostalgia. I'll admit that
Discovery was actually pretty uneven, but when that means that a lot of supposed fans decide in advance to hate
Starfleet Academy, which turned out to be
great IMHO, that's a real shame. At least they'll drop one more season of it that was already in production before we lose new Star Trek altogether. I guess that means Paramount+ will get me back for a month or so when that happens.
