(This post was last modified: 01-08-2014, 12:10 PM by cabreban.)
Presently, I have about 57 credits of college work (15 hours in upper division 300 and 400 communication courses) I will be taking 6 hours this spring (anatomy physiology 1 with lab) and medical terminology... 10 more hours in lower division (A & P 2, abnormal psychology and microcomputers). I am pursuing an Occupational Therapy Assistant associates in applied science. Once I complete my degree at my local technical college and become a (board) certified occupational therapy assistant, I will have over 134 hours of coursework (see below).
Once I complete my associates, I would LOVE to go ahead and apply to one of the BIG THREE to get my bachelors. Which of the schools do you think will be a great option? What type of bachelors? Advice? What do you think I will have left to complete this degree?
Would a B.S. in Health Communication make sense?
I will need to complete the following to become a COTA:

I heard back from Excelsior. They consider the OTA program coursework remedial. Any advice?

Talk to TESC and COSC and see what they say. We have a community college who offers this degree, just like a regular one. They don't consider OTA courses remedial.
I think I would push harder at EC as well, talk to someone else, show them the degree plan at your school.

are you sure they didn't say "career" or "technical" or similar? In that case they'd transfer in as electives.

I had technical courses - they transferred to Excelsior as electives.

Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun. Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior. And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

I am just finishing my MSOT and the difficulty with OT in general is it is not well understood, even within the health services field. Many people think occupational therapy is vocational counseling, for example, so I am not shocked at the initial response from Excelsior regarding your credits. Once you pay the application fee and have your credits assessed, I think many if not most of your credits will be approved. Your main bottleneck is too many lower division credits that will quickly fill your elective slots.
To the best of my knowledge, Excelsior does not offer a B.S. in Health Communication. TESC offers a B.A. in Communication, so that may be your best approach to utilizing your exisitng upper division credits.
Have you considered a B.S. in health sciences degree? Excelsior offers that with many concentrations. Excelsior College | Excelsior College Program Descriptions: Health Sciences
If all else fails, you might consider a BSLS
I am not familiar with COSC but I do have a bachelor's from both TESC and Excelsior. I will say given the sheer number of credits you have, you should be pretty close to fulfilling some bachelor's degree requirements. However, given the vagaries of how the OTA credits will be applied to any degree plan, I recomend you pony up the application fee at both TESC and Excelsior and see where your credits fit best. For example, depending on their course descriptions, some OTA courses could be considered psychology, some sociology, and some physiology. The best approach is to figure out how your current credits line up with each of the big three's course catalogues and go from there.
Best of luck.

I was thinking that TESC offers a BSAST in Health Services Technology - it looks like a lot of your courses would apply.
I agree with Waldorfteacher, your best bet is to apply at TESC and EC and see what they bring everything in as. You want to go where they accept the most number of credits towards the most requirements, with the most number of UL courses being fulfilled. It's hard to know until you get evals at all of the schools.
Good luck!
