Actual amount of questions on CLEP exams vary??
#1
Hello again,
So today my goal was to complete my final practice test(The official CLEP study guide) before my Principles of management exam tomorrow. When I went to download the PDF to my surprise, the 2013 version is no longer available and I was forced into purchasing the 2014 version. I was fairly certain that the info "should" be pretty much the same but what I wasn't expecting was the practice test to be 110 questions in 90 minutes, as opposed to the 100 questions that I had become accustomed to with the Peterson tests etc.

The language in the directions did say "around" 100 questions when I went back and actually looked, but I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this? Especially with the actual exams? Also if anyone knows if it's now possible that my exam tomorrow will switch over to some sort of 2014 rules, where maybe the new versions of the exams have 110 questions instead of 100?

I have only taken one other CLEP exam(the US history 1), and if I remember right, it was right on the money at a 120 questions long...

Btw I got 92 correct out of the 110, which is just about 84%(I'm aware that clep doesn't go by percentages) I know that is decent and I'm shooting for just passing, but most of those questions were very polar from super easy to what the hell are they talking about(for instance, which ohio state theory matches up best with 3 separate motivation theory answers, from hersey-blanchard to fiedlers, to another one...just felt odd I guess) to actually be a good representation of the actual test in my eyes. But I am probably completely wrong about that lol. thanks again

All of the CLEP I took were the number of questions quoted as far as I can remember. Sometimes they do say there might be a few sample questions they are trying out for future exams. You will not know which questions these are and they will not figure in the grade.

I have always felt getting at least 60% on a practice test got me a passing grade on the real thing, my lowest grade on any of the CLEP or DSST I took was a 61 so that method seems to work.

Linda's right, every now and then they'll put in some "sample" questions. You can usually spot them as some are from waaaay left field, but don't let them rattle you. As Linda pointed out, they don't count towards your score.

yes, i was expecting to see 15-20 questions on the REAL exam that were "out of left field" and not counting toward the grade, but I was under the impression that those questions would be part of the 100 questions? not adding 10 more questions to make the total 110 correct? As in maybe only 80-85 questions in a real clep exam are graded and the rest are pre-test. I also wouldn't expect to see any out of bounds questions on a practice test, especially one that is designed by the college board themselves. I have a pretty good feeling that I will pass, i just don't like surprises I guess haha. thanks for everyone's help though!!

thanks. yeah I don't know if it was changed for 2014 or not as I guess the 1st of September, the 2013 version(official study guide) was replaced by the new 2014 version. I dont know if that has any relevance at all to the actual exam changing or not. One of my assumptions was that the number of questions to answer in 90 min may have been or may be increased in the future(2014) because of peoples attitudes that the test was too easy and some colleges even not granting credit for it due to that fact.

I wouldn't let it bother you too much. On a test like that I don't think 10 questions will put you over the time limit. To be honest, I never really paid attention to how many questions would be on a test. I guess if it were something like math that I'm not proficient in I would probably worry about it. That's why I'm taking ALEKS for that, though.

Good friend of mine just took educational psych and said she had more questions than expected, she also said she had several that were completely foreign, as in none of the people-terms-etc. were anything to do with educational psych lol. Piecing that together, I'd bet they were throw aways, but I can't be sure. You never know what questions are tossed.
