My oldest daughter only did the Intermediate Algebra while my second daughter has done both the Beginning and the Intermediate Algebra. We plan on moving her on to the College Algebra as soon as ACE processes it onto her transcript. ALEKS approved it the same day I submitted it. They are great!
Has anyone done both the Intermediate Algebra and the College Algebra? I'd like to find out how much overlap there is between them.

[QUOTE=a4tunatemom]I should have probably pointed out that the Beginning Algebra does not meet TESC's minimum math requirement. Thankfully, the Aleks Intermediate Algebra does! The Beginning Algebra can only be used as a General Ed. elective or free elective.

Danielle, when your daughter took her first assessment for Intermediate Algebra after finishing Beginning Algebra, do you remember how she did? I'm wondering about overlap too.

You said Beginning Algebra can be used as General Elective....have you confirmed that? Also how easy is it to sign up and complete these courses. Thanks

Jennifer,
I actually had her do the Intermediate Algebra first because I knew it met the math requirement at TESC. After she finished, we switched the courses and she did the Beg. Algebra in one day. I do think there was a lot of overlap between the two courses.

Campbell,
The advisor placed it on his evaluation as a General Elective and he asked her to take it off. He might use Aleks as a back up if he doesn't pass all of his CLEPs and DSST's. It is easy to sign up for the courses. I personally don't think Algebra is easy under any circumstances but I will tell you that Aleks makes it much easier to understand. They break it down and explain everything very well so the student can be successful.

My husband is going to be transferring credits from other colleges to TESC for an AA degree very soon. Years ago, he had taken a "for credit" algebra course at Philadelphia Community College. Since that time, the course has been changed to remedial and, when I reviewed his transcript, it shows as "for credit" when he took it, but it is now a noncredit course, and this appears on the transcript as well. When I asked at TESC, they told me his course would not count.
He hasn't taken math for a while and I was wondering about ALEX. Do you remember the advisor your husband spoke with? It would be great if he could do it that way.
Do you just do all the modules and then get it transcripted to ACE and forwarded to TESC?

Donna,
My husband spoke to the advisor about Aleks Beginning Algebra. I know the Aleks Intermediate Algebra does meet the requirement. Many people have used it and had it accepted. There is a long Aleks thread that explains everything. All you have to do is complete 70% of the Intermediate Algebra course and then have it transcripted by ACE and sent to TESC.

You're welcome! I'm grateful for the people here who discovered Aleks and led me to it.
