I wouldn't bother with rosetta stone unless you don't mind paying for it. I am using learning spanish like crazy to learn how to speak the language and learn the accent. If you go to audible.com you can get part one and two plus part one of fsi for 7.49 a piece. You can only get one a month but that shouldn't be a problem. That's quite a deal considering the prices they usually go for.
The next best thing for me has been hungry frog. I am using it to learn the vocabulary which is the same thing that rosetta stone does. The best part about it is that it is FREE (downloadable)! As far as learning vocabulary this has been the best method for me so far. It is the funnest game that I have tried, and it has a pretty extensive dictionary.
What I do is just use the same words over and over until I know them by heart and then I move on to the next ones. Right now I'm still on letter A but I've only been doing it for about a week. I am remembering everything that I have gone over so far. It has been a life saver. Who wants to stare at a dictionary and try to memorize words for hours a day!
There are plenty of free resources on the internet to learn the grammar and fundamentals.
Here is the link for hungry frog: Learn Spanish Language Vocabulary with Hungry Frog Spanish Language Software to Teach Spanish Vocabulary in School and Homeschool Spanish Programs | Hungry Frog Software Program Manuals
I hope this helps.
