Starting With 0 Credits At Excelsior for Liberal Studies

Hello,

Thanks for this informative forum. You guys are great. I was just wondering if I am starting fresh should I just go by the course catalog or do I need to talk to an adviser. I plan on doing 90% of my work by testing out.

Thanks.

Although you may have some very good ideas, only an "official" EC advisor can point you in the right direction. Good Luck & Welcome!!

Welcome aboard.

Since you are starting from scratch, you should email an advisor at whichever school you have chosen. If it is excelsior then you can also review their requirements for the degree you are considering. If you are wanting to start testing right away, I would suggest with the basics which are required of everyone, math, english etc.

The freshman composition CLEP likely meets the English requirement. This might be a good start and study guide is available on InstantCert.

Hope this helps. Also, if you need some inexpensive elective credits, (which you will) you can check out the FEMA courses which are 1 credit each and can be taken entirely online from home. They end up costing $60 per credit.

I took three the other day in a couple of hours for a quick 3 credits. Search for FEMA in these forums for some good info.Smile

Welcome again.

Just wanted to point out that CLEP does not satisfy the Written English Requirement at Excelsior. You'll need to take the ECE English Composition for that. CLEP Humanities and Social Sciences/History are good ones to start with. The Liberal Arts degree-by-exam plan at bain4weeks.com is still pretty much valid, even though it's a few years old. Check it against the current Excelsior catalog and Student Assessment Guide. You can adjust the electives to your own taste. Good luck!
