BA CS - Metropolia credits transfer

Since I'm a EU citizen I should be able to enroll to Metropolia to cover a substantial part of the required courses for the BA CS degree.

I'm still lacking a couple RA credits, as well as some Computer Science Electives, and some Natural Sciences, Math, and CS Electives.

Does anyone have experience with Metropolia and what transfers? Is it possible to only take certain classes to transfer, or would I need to complete something like the https://opinto-opas.metropolia.fi/offeri...32?lang=en with the full 120 credits in order to be able to transfer at TESU?

Hi boblax,

first off: please correct the title of this thread, because it is Metropolia University - not Metropolis! We're not talking about Superman and Clark Kent.
Due to this typo, many people may not even know which school you are talking about. Therefore, they can't help you. For instance, I - just by accident - took a glance at it.

Second, you put your Google docs plan in the trash bin (File is in owner's trash). Thus, DegreeForum users won't be able to help you with that either. Please keep your references so that people can take a look at it whenever they have time for that. Believe me, many people here are awesome and help a lot, but you should make it as easy as possible for them. Everybody here is busy as well.

Third, you don't have to complete the full 120 ECTS at Metropolia to transfer them in; you choose the classes you wanna / need to take. However, I highly recommend to finish the whole 120 ECTS, because Metropolia University changes its curricula on a regular basis and you may not have these options in the near future.

Fourth, bear in mind that your Metropolia credits need to be sent to a FCE (foreign credits evaluator) first! If you don't do that first, TESU won't accept your credits. Therefore, you gotta check out which FCEs TESU currently accepts and choose one. There are several out there, but they do differentiate in certain and important aspects, such as velocity, how many credits recognized, LL vs. UL, price, bureaucracy, and so forth. For example, one FCE may take 3 months to evaluate your credits, whereas another one may do it in 2-3 days if you pay double or triple. FCE evaluation prices change every year. No idea how much they charge currently, you gotta check out their prices.

Bumping this to not open another thread.
It's been a month now that Metropolia has send my transcript at WES. I ordered the transcript via metropolia archive service thing and they confirmed by email that they had an official partnership with WES and sent them my transcript.
It was on March 3rd, we're April 4th and still zero mention from WES. I sent WES 3 (!!!) emails and have yet to receive an answer to a single one of them. I called their customer support but the woman was reading from her script and literally just told me to wait for the email answer.
What can I do at this point? I'm thinking about just closing the application, asking for a refund and starting the process with another evaluator because I need these courses to move on with my degree at TESU.

Has anyone been in the same situation and could advise me? Or anyone has a good experience with another evaluation service?

I used Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) for mine, they weren't as prompt with emails but I did receive replies to my emails when I sent them. All in all, it took a little less than 2 months for the whole process. I created my application in the second week of January, had my previous institutions send the transcripts to them (one of them did courier only, so that added some time) and I got my evaluation back from TESU in about a week in the second week of March. I think the processing times vary depending on the influx of people using the service. That being said, I'd go with ECE again if I needed to, I wasn't too happy with the time it took either but at least my frustrations were heard. 

I'm surprised WES hasn't responded to your emails though, they're one of the biggest credential evaluation services out there, heard good things about them on reddit too.

I think reddit is bs / they're paying people to post there. Go look at the reviews on google map, it's astonishing. I'm surprised they're still in business tbh. This is my timeline with them:

[*]March 3 – Metropolia sent my transcript electronically through their direct channel with WES
[*]After that, nothing happened for weeks. I sent 4 contact requests over the course of a month and called twice. I never received any replies, and phone support only told me to wait for an email that never came
[*]April 3 – I asked Metropolia to send a paper copy instead
[*]April 8 – Transcript was mailed
[*]April 17 – Tracking confirms delivery to WES

To this day nothing. No acknowledgment of transcript receipt, no email answer, nothing, zero. Think I'm going to cancel the application and eat the cancellation fee and use ECE.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I wouldn't be surprised, The Evaluation Company changed their name, it was known as SpanTran before and if you google SpanTran reviews and reddit, you get a bunch of posts that were extremely disappointed with their experiences.

What courses were transferred over to TESU from? Any one-to-one transfers?

I had a bunch of transfer credit from my Biology/Psychology and Business courses. As for one-to-one transfers here's what transferred in as relevantly as it could:

ENC- 1020 - My first year English course transferred in
 
PSY-1010 Introduction to Psychology - Psychology ll at my university

PSY-3790 Social Psychology - Intro to Psychology of Personality at my uni

PSY-3000
PSY-3600 - Both courses had my UL Psychology courses transfer in (but were listed as Psychology Electives)

The TESU Degree Planner mapped out a few other courses but sometimes the transfers didn't make sense, like SOC- 2100 Marriage and the Family had my Organizational Behavior business course fulfill the requirement. In the Psychology plan, my various Biology courses were used to transfer in for gen-eds like Nutrition and Earth Science, or as general electives.

For the Biology plan, none of my courses transferred in one-to-one, for their Bio/Phys/Chem or Microbiology, this was due to the discrepancy between Canadian Universities offering lab and lecture courses together for 3 credits vs. the U.S. being 4 credit courses. Genetics did transfer in, but no TESU coursename exists for it, same with my Ornithology (UL Bio) course, it transferred in as a UL Bio elective.
