TESC and GPA
#11
I will not have a GPA with TESC when I graduate. I have been acccepted into grad school. They took all of my transcripts and figured out my GPA accordingly from my graded classes. I also applied to an MBA program and they only used my business classes to figure out my GPA for enrollment into that program. I was going to take 1 or 2 classes at TESC but I felt it was not going to make any difference for me getting into grad school. I thought a GPA based on 1 or 2 classes was not going to be a real number. Who ever the person is reviewing my transcripts was going to see right through a GPA based on 1 or 2 classes. I would rather explain a non GPA degree and send the according documents and let them come to their own conclusions about what type of student I really am.

Yeah, I kind of agree with you about getting a grade based on 1 or 2 classes probably wouldn't make much of a difference. As far as grad schools are concerned I really think it depends on the grad school. For example, I think most online schools such as TESC, AMU, or even UOP(I think) wouldn't be concerned with your grades as much. However, I noticed traditional schools with online programs have grade requirements based on your last 30 credits (the ones I've looked into) and have an acceptable score on the GRE or GMAT. But there's ways around that too like a previous poster mentioned, starting out at another grad program and transferring in or starting out as a non matriculated grad student and prove your worthiness by acquiring the necessary grades in a few courses.

I do have former graded courses from B&M schools so I added them in and used a form I got on TESC's website to figure out my GPA from all graded courses. I would think that if a graduate school bothered to check how many credits were from TESC they would want a full transcript that has all classes and grades listed.

When I started at TESC they did use all graded courses to calculate your GPA that is part of the reason I decided to take 2 courses from them. I wanted to get my GPA up. It may never show anywhere else and nobody else will know but at least I know. It is not perfect we are talking courses ranging over 37 years now, but I got it over 3.0 and that feels good to me.

If you want to take as few courses as required to et a "legitanate" GPA from TESC they do have 3 or 4 6 credit courses, that way you could do it in 2 semesters of 3 courses.

I'm worried that I may risk losing my chance at pursuing a graduate degree if I don't have a GPA on the transcript. Can anyone advise what is the most painless way of getting a grade with TESC - perhaps TECEP??

I'm starting a graduate course with Harvard extension in another couple of weeks so I'll probably be way over my head with work if I do anything else right now.
Any thoughts/suggesions appreciated.

Thanks!!

Good luck on your Harvard course. I LOVED mine! Yes, it will be a lot of work, but hopefully it will be excellent for you too.

It's not that TESC doesn't issue GPAs, it's that most colleges (TESC included) don't award grades for transfer courses, CLEP exams, DSST exams, TECEP exams, etc....so if you only used those sources- it stands to reason that you won't have letter grades.

Now- if you apply to grad school and have grades from other undergraduate sources (not credit- GRADES) then those will be figured in and you'll be fine.

Just because TESC won't have a number printed next to your GPA, it doesn't mean you don't have one- it only means that TESC isn't giving you one.

The way to earn a TESC GPA is by taking TESC classes, but even if you take one and end up with a 4.0, you only have a 4.0 until your grad school does their own math. All of your grades (or the last 60 graded credits) are used. Simply google a GPA calculator, enter in your own graded credits and you'll be able to report an accurate GPA on your applications.
