Basic Questions Compilation (Primer/FAQ for Newcomers)

You've asked essentially this same question several times. Start with this article:

https://blog.tesu.edu/the-secret-to-earn...ond-degree

It doesn't talk about earning two degrees simultaneously since they didn't used to allow that. If you're graduating both degrees at the same time though, it seems pretty obvious that you don't have to take the credits for the second degree after the first has conferred. However...

You've been talking about doing an BALS and a BA English at the same time. Since those are both BAs, it is NOT two degrees, it is a second Area of Study, which IS discussed in the article. For a dual AOS, you fulfill one set of GenEds, then fulfill both AOSs. You can have up to 9 credits in the AOSs overlap.

There's some question whether those two degrees can be done together. The BALS may be too general for a second AOS.

I would recommend that you go ahead and apply and try to declare both degrees. This will answer that question, get you access to advising, and start an academic eval for both degrees, which should help you understand where things fit better. You can always change your mind and decide to pursue only one of the degrees.

I can't see why anyone would get a BALS and a BA in English.  Seems like a complete waste of time.  It's a general degree, and then a specific degree.  Why wouldn't you just stick with a specific degree (that's a good degree by the way)?

I always question people who get a BSBA in General Management and another specific AOS as well.  There is zero point to it.  Just get that specific AOS, which will be perfectly acceptable in almost every case.  Get 2 if you want, both specific.  But a specific and general is a waste of time (and money).

Someone told the OP that some companies, such as Google, like interdisciplinary degrees more than tech degrees.

I agree with those who think that the BALS is worthless when you have a more focused degree, especially one that's in the liberal arts.

I've said the same thing. As a hiring manager, I wouldn't see any advantage to a candidate having a general and specific degree at the same level.
