Ignore InstantCert for now and buy the REA CLEP books. Read them, do the practice tests, study the detailed answers to the ones you get wrong and then do the instantcert cards as additional help.

Everyone is a little bit different in what works for them.
Some members hardly ever look at the cards, others only read the cards as a brief textbook without filling the blanks, and some have just worked the cards till they feel they are ready... I have used different methods depending on the test. On tests that affect your GPA don't rely on the flashcards alone. I recommend the 'flashcards only' route for the following three tests that I have personally taken: -CLEP Sociology -CLEP Principles of Management -CLEP Principles of Marketing (I'm taking it tomorrow and I feel very confident) I'm a bookworm so I enjoy reading, but many textbooks have a lot of fluff. (To be fair I haven't used rea books so far.) (I need to add I just passed marketing by a lot.)

Like columbia said, what works best for one person will not for another. I start with the flashcards for snippet introductions to the material and take notes. Then grab another source (REA book, textbook from the library, old edition text picked up cheaply on Amazon, etc) and skim to fill in missing subject blanks. Go back to IC. Go back to the notes. Skim the book again. By the second pass, the material is usually recognizable and I'm just polishing my understanding.
That's my method. Your mileage may vary. Ryoder likes to start with books. Others may start with other sources. Experiment and see what seems to make the material click best for you.

I agree with the others, what works for one person may not work for another person. Since, I am a visual learner, I do best, when I start with books before I supplement the books with other sources especially CliffsNotes.

Thanks nleamons,
I've always been a "printed note" person. Just trying to do something new.

Thanks Mrs B,
Its refreshing to get ideas like this. I'm going to experiment a little, so that I may choose the courses soon.

Thanks Columbia,
Great to know you passed well. Congrats. I'm taking other CLEP courses like: College Composition, Educational Psychology, Introductory Psychology and HG & D. Trully would like to "bookworm" my way to success too. |
