COSC Fema AAS???
#1
Hello People,

Does COSC have an equivalent to TESC's FEMA based AAS? Also, is there a max. amount of FEMAs accepted by COSC?

Thanx in advance.

No - if you're looking for a FEMA AAS that's worth anything, you should go through TESC. COSC's associates degrees don't allow for much flexibility. You have to complete the general requirements that are the same for the BS or BA and take the Capstone course. There isn't a lot of room for additional credits. Charter Oak State College - Completing Your Degree shows the associates degree choices, which appear to be just associates in arts or science with no specialty.

I would not stop at an associates degree regardless of what you study, but if you do, TESC's AAS seems like more bang for your buck IMHO.

True, but they appear to have plenty of "free electives" in an AS or AA. From their website: "The Associate in Arts degree requires 45 liberal arts credits, while the Associate in Science degree requires 30. There is usually plenty of room for open electives." I believe there are 36 Gen Ed credits in the AA but wouldn't that mean around 24 open for FEMA? Or do I have it wrong? I only finished my BS there so I really don't know. And I echo the hope that you would move right on to a bachelors degree!.....also the associates only requires the cornerstone not the capstone. Smile

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

I went back and looked, I think the AS only requires 30 credits in Gen Ed, then the other 30 are free electives. Charter Oak State College - Liberal Arts Requirements IDK if 30 credits are approved from FEMA, but it should be close...they follow the Frederick CC rubric, I think anything that states "college credit" on the FEMA website is approved for FCC.

Let us know how you come out...if you can do this with 30 LA and 30 FEMA it would be quite a find! Would mean an AS for around $2500 that could be completed in a very short time period.

If you're just looking for a general studies associates, then COSC would be fine. There really isn't much value in a general studies associates. You might as well keep going to a bachelors. I don't know about COSC, but TESC will accept FEMAs as homeland security and emergency preparedness electives within the area of study for the bachelors degree.
