College mathmatics
#1
Hello all,

I currently attend Western state in Colorado.
I'm looking to fulfill my math requirement. Math is not my strong point.

I'm going to attempt to take the six credit college mathmatics CLEP.
I've got a few questions on the test

-What all does the scientific calculator provided allow you to do? square roots?
-How similiar are the actual questions to the practice exam provided by clep?

-Does anyone know what percentage of the questions do you have to get right to pass?

-If you get less than a 50, do you fail? or get less credits like 3 out of 6?

If college mathmatics test harder than College algebra?

Any of information on the test that might be useful would be great!

The percentage correct is not something released, and it probably depends on the version of the test you get. Most colleges don't award credit for below a 50, but you'll have to check with your college for their policies. The accepted tests, number of credits, minimum score, etc. can vary by college.
BBA, MBA/ACC

Currently pursuing AS, working on 35ish CLEP credit hours, 3/7 tests complete!

English Comp w/Essay (3) - 7/09 - 71

College Algebra (3)
American Lit (6)

It's a pretty decent calculator in my opinion - better than the one you'll find on any given computer in that it's simple to use, yet does allow you to easily compute square roots and exponents.

Quote:-How similiar are the actual questions to the practice exam provided by clep?
They should be somewhat similar. Most of the practice tests I took (REA mostly) were a fair bit harder than the real test. I would wait until you're getting 55% to 60% (or more if you can) before taking the real test.

Quote:-Does anyone know what percentage of the questions do you have to get right to pass?
Approximately 50%. Give yourself some room for error and you'll be set to pass.

Quote:-If you get less than a 50, do you fail? or get less credits like 3 out of 6?
Anything less than 50 is a fail. The only circumstance in which you would get less than six credits is if your school accepts it as less than six credits.

No. College Algebra is quite a bit more focused -- I used up all my time on the College Algebra exam minus four minutes. I had half an hour left for College Mathematics.

If you don't already have it, Peterson's CLEP Success book has a decent review section and (more importantly) two practice tests. Make sure you take a few timed tests before you take the plunge.

Hope it goes well,

You betcha. The only exception would be English Comp w/ Essay, I think. If it's computer-based, the results are immediate, which is certainly gratifying.

Minor Noble is the lowest rank on the forum. You'll become a Squire once you reach 30 posts. Then Senior Squire, Knight, Knight Champion, Baronet, Baron, Viscount, etc.

Just keep posting and you'll get there. Big Grin

Math was my strong point in school but that was many years ago. With the help of my wife's tutelage I was able to pass this test with two weeks study. I highly recommend getting a tutor, math is one of those subjects that are black and white; if you have someone explain it to you you have a better chance of remembering. Check out the specific exam feedback for more info of what to expect & good luck.
