Complaining + Question Help
#1
Hi,

Ugh... so first a little vent and then a couple of questions. So I am super happy with COSC because of the good service I've gotten so far. But it's all my advisor. She's awesome and I email her all the time with questions - she'll respond sometimes within an hour, but never lets more than 24 go by. I have been super annoying and she has been awesome.

Anyhow... A couple of things I'm upset about. I tried to change my concentration from psych to business like two months ago. I still haven't gotten the approval yet. ALSO, in my degree plan, I was including an UL TECEP. However, since I can't get anyone at TESC to call me back just to answer a couple of questions as I'm getting the test set up, I'm going have to replace my TECEP UL credit with something else.

I was considering taking a sales management course from Adams State - self paced online instead of the TECEP, but my advisor was unsure whether it would be counted as UL. I won't enroll unless I'm sure it's UL. My advisor asked me to email the registrar to find out for sure if it's UL or not and I still haven't heard back Sad

Here are the questions I have:

1) I am really hoping that COSC gets around to looking at my request to change my concentration before I'm DONE with all of my business concentration requirements. AND I have to enroll in my Capstone soon! They already sent my essay explaining my concentration request back me once because they wanted me to elaborate on why I felt that I could get most of my requirements through testing. I responded with a VERY long essay going into great detail about how my work experience relates to each test. This was like three weeks ago and nothing back yet...

How likely is is that they would deny my concentration request? I mean... they didn't give me any hassle about my psychology plan, which was also entirely testing. They can't force me to get a psych degree, can they???? GRRRRRR

2) If I can't get a response back soon regarding the Adams State class (I've given up on the TECEP), I was considering taking an ECE Exam. Labor Relations would count as UL business AND there are IC cards! My question is how quickly do you get graded and how long does it take for those grades to get to COSC? If I fail I need to know quickly so I can figure out how I'm going to make up for the credits.

Thank you for listening. I keep seeing on the COSC Facebook page that they're closing for snow a lot lately. I'm trying to be forgiving because I've been so happy up to this point and it seems like they're having a horrible winter. I'm just getting down to the wire here if I want to finish my business requirements before my March Capstone class. If I don't have my requirements done, they won't even let me enroll in the capstone, which would postpone my degree until the summer.... which would mean another 1500 enrollment fee...

I can see why they don't see that there's any rush. After all... with only 85 credits, they probably think I'm still a couple of semesters away from needing a response.

To answer what I can...

1) I haven't been through the process of changing a concentration, however the process of submitting my original CPS for review took a solid 3 weeks. Don't get discouraged yet. I'm guessing the weather challenges have slowed them down. I also had originally planned to test out of my degree and found no resistance whatsoever. I simply and briefly described some of the key test subjects I was interested in and how they fit into my work background or work focus. I received my feedback with positive comments.

2) I took the Labor Relations, HR Management and Organizational Behavior exams through ECE. All are UL in case you need the HRM and OB. My results were ready to transcribe within 24 hours or so. It took roughly a week for the transcripts to reach COSC using snail mail. Remember though, you will get your results once you finish the exams, so you will know if you passed right away.

Regarding the capstone...

The requirements state that for the Business Admin concentration, you need a certain number of pre-reqs. I emailed my advisor, stated my intentions and the timeframe in which I would complete the required courses/exams. She approved my capstone course right away and allowed me to enroll. It worked out well.

I wish you well! Hang in there! cheersmate

PM me if you have other questions... Be glad to help if I can.

Thank you thank you thank you FenderNed! Seeing another COSC person here is nice Smile

The ECE info is good to know. I'll keep that in mind. I'm a little scared to take a test that doesn't have IC cards, but HR management might be a little easier than Labor Relations - thought on that? I don't think I can do the ECE OB test as I've got that DSST scheduled for tomorrow.

Good point on the prerequisites. According to my transcript, I haven't yet passed the pre-reqs, which are macro and micro. Macro is done and SL sent the transcript to COSC earlier this week and I took Micro on 1/19, so it may take some time.

I guess if worse comes to worse, once I'm done with the my concentration, I could totally change my essay. Ha ha - from justifying how my experience matches the tests I'm taking, I could just say, these tests are good choices for me because I've PASSED THEM ALL. hilarious
