Course fee?
#1
Hi all,
For those who have taken UoPeople graduate courses before, can you explain what the $350 assessment fee per course entails? Also, what is a typical course breakdown in regards to quizzes, tests, papers, etc?

Thanks all.

You pay the fee after you have completed the course and received a grade. If you don't pay, the course doesn't get transcripted and you can't continue to take courses at the University of the people.

Breakdown varies by course in program. You said $350, I'm going to assume you're in one of the Masters programs. I don't think any of the masters programs have tests or quizzes, but I could be wrong.

Interesting... You're going for the MEd Advanced Teaching (IB), that's the one I'm looking at as well. I am thinking of getting that in the following sequence, after I do the UoPeople BS Health Sciences, and complete the UMPI MAOL, then do the MEd Advanced Teaching afterwards. The other masters, MBA/MSIT are both $400/assessment

Yes that’s the exact one I was looking to earn haha. If you have any experience from UoPeople, do you know how long each course takes to complete and what the grade breakdown is for each of those masters courses?

Thanks for the reply. What happens if you don’t like the grade you received? If you pay the fee, can you retake the course to try to earn a higher grade or does the grade stay? Just curious how that works

I'm not sure how many people on this forum have completed a master's degree at University of the People. I took only one course in the MEd program. Have you tried looking at the graduate student catalog on their website? That should answer most of these logistics questions

I was reading through their FAQs but they said that you need to pay the course fee before starting but you said you pay the course fee at the end?

University of the People had to face a class action lawsuit for deceptive advertising and misleading use of the term "end". Therefore, they probably removed "at the end" to avoid further legal issues.

Oh okay. So that means you DO have to pay in the beginning now? Or they just removed the phrase ?

It's not required to pay upfront, but they want you to pay before taking the exam, otherwise you can't proceed. So in my opinion, the best wording would be "in the middle".

Unless they changed their policies, if you do not pay the exam fee you have to withdraw, and you get a W as a final grade. In other words, the "exam fee" is a fancy term for "tuition". But then I was in the program 2 years back, so maybe they don't play that game anymore. Maybe mechanics should tell you that all repairs are free, and the charge is the "key return fee" lol.
