Degree Plan, help? I
#81
I will be happy to report back (I want to be a "good" member).

From the view "of just some working class dude"
I can report on:
- TEEX CYB101/201/301 ... I believe a 10th grade student, that uses a desktop "actively" with some interest, could EASILY pass
- FEMA IS .. "anyone" can pass (we are talking 9th grade test level, multiple choice 3 options, 2 options are obviously unrelated to question, so on) .. I am saying, entire FEMA IS + PDC inside a single "all day session" (longest, is "active shooter")
- Google .. The handholding levels may lead to marriage ("easy"), but its "dry" (jargon, techy, for the "non-geek") >> by far, Data Analytics is "hardest"
- MS .. almost the same as google, but final test is "more serious" (official proctors), also "dry"
- Coursera "other ACE" stuff: If you can pass AWS or a 12th grade "Career Studies" class, you can pass them ... unless its "Deepseek AI" or "advanced SAS" or other "overly" technical ones
- ISC2 (Comptia, etc): "snoozerz", if you bothered to do the practice/prep content (again High school senior level)
/
My "promo/test" of Sophia (visual communications) ... seemed like it might be a spoof, it was so unserious
/
Saylor Academy: "Too easy" or "too hard", depending on self-teach and/or prior knowledge, for subjects that can get "more than intro level"
/
Modern States is simple, and in a way, cute (very "high school" themed), but are "prep" only
/
Personal feel: ASU is "nice" ... JSU is "dismissive" ... Clakmas is also "dismissive" .. UofP is "not kind" ... TESU is very kind ... Excelsior was outright "rude" .. PP C&TC is nice, but they seem "over this"
........
Sorry for the sudden in thread report

Unprompted, AMU has started reaching out to me. specifically about: Canadian acceptance/assist + BS CYB ...
I'm sure its totally random.... right?
///

I got into Pima ... the course catalog is MUCH better than wiki leads one to believe (summer 2025: I have found over 10 free, 3 credit courses looking in CIS area alone)
VERY VERY GOOD !!!

moved Pima info to Pima thread
/
/
I dont want to "jump the gun" ... I believe this has "solved" my RA credit issue, inside a very friendly fee. Appears better than wiki lets on, as I said (many are "$0 + no cost" others I looked at all in the $45-$150 range)

Light update:

I am now complete or in the process of completing:

Pima CC Summer/Fall 2025
HON 101 - Honors Colloquium (3) - free
HRP 100 - Success in Health Professions ( 1) - free
STU 100 - College Success/Career Planning (1) - free
STU 106 - Choosing Major/College Success (1) - $44.89 this is 1 credit
STU 107 - University Transfer Exploration/College Success (1) - free
STU 109 - Making Career Choices (2) - $44.89

ASU - Done
CIS 194 - Business Technology Fundamentals (1) - $25

Clackamas CC - Am Student, Awaiting class entry
LIB 101 - LIB101 - Introduction to Library Research (1) - free

JSU - In Registration, Awaiting "Try It" entry
"Try It" - I have yet to complete process to see if I can join this summer term? (3) - free
/
up to 14 (17 with 2x JSU terms, example) RA credits, approx. cost $125 .. Aim is 24 RA credits (??am I right??)

Modern States - Member, I Am Mid Prep
English I/II (6) - Modern States (for CLEP voucher, I can pass without fear, CLEP is ok) - free

Sophia - Waiting until the 1st of month (33)
Workplace Comm / Algebra / Intro to Statistics / Environmental Science / Intro to Sociology / US Government / US History 1 / Intro to Ethics / Criminology / Introduction to Criminal Justice / Macroeconomics
.. Pace/Etc ("And yes, completing 6 Sophia courses in 1 week is not all that shocking to some of us either.") - https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...-in-1-Week - $99/month (less discount)
/

ASU... offers 3 credit courses, $25 + $400 ($425 or $141.67/credit) .., but TEL Learning is $67/credit (?) if I need to juice up RA credits (I believe the min needed now is 24, not 30)
/
/
IF so thats $670 additional (for 10 RA credits via TEL) ... $125 + $99 + $670 = $894 USD so far projected (for credit collection)
/
Taking me to 124 + 63 (additional credits) = 187 .., of which at least 17 are UL ... leaving (mostly) 2x Cornerstones (6) + 1x Capstone (3) + Digital Literacy to complete (3) = 199 credits (of which 26 are UL)
TESU fees > Approx. $4600 + Approx. $900 = Approx. $5500

Basically, COSC and TESU are the only two you need RA credits for (24 credits at minimum), the other institutions (even Excelsior) doesn't require any RA as 90+ credits will transfer with the ACE options alone, you can use NCCRS for those institutions that accept NCCRS, but to be on the safer side of things, ACE over NCCRS for now.

Essentially, It's a good thing you're going for these credits if there is a need for the RA credits, it's also a good thing for learning gaps or review to get you started with online education and building the momentum for other online classes to come, for example, the cornerstone/capstone combo (or even the info lit at Excelsior).

I feel the credits are a little extreme (as in it seems like alot for a BS)

PS:
this may be cheaper for the same??? (I can cut $670 in fees for 10 RA credits via TEL, also)

Wiki "Free Sources of Credit"
"(as little as $3780)"
https://www.excelsior.edu/program/bachel...rsecurity/
No calculus/etc needed

In regards to that $3780, that's if all the credits are aligned and transferable using all of those cheap/free options available... The thing is, no one has really mapped that properly as we don't know for sure it's going to hit the correct spots, plus Excelsior has the $300 per evaluation. Now, if you have all the credits and you believe it'll hit the spots properly, the first evaluation is free when you apply... A side note is, if your transcripts all come in at different times, those may be considered additional transcripts, so be careful on how this will play out, we still need guinea pigs for the new degree offerings Excelsior has though...

I will map BS Cyb
I seem to be the only leaner interested in the program, atm
I am not a programmer/STEM IT type, but I can map AAS to MS (Excelisor has it: https://www.excelsior.edu/program/online...rsecurity/) IS/Cyb (areas I understand somewhat)

Bingo, found resources needed. Either way inital steps of GE credit collection are unaffected (and thats were I'm at currently)

The majority (and nearly all LL) will be mapped from these

Sophia > Excelsior =
Official: https://excelsior.sophia.org/#courses
Rough: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/So...lency_List
IT Certs > Excelsior =
https://www.excelsior.edu/start-with-mor...fications/

15 Upper Level should be no issue, with targeting (for everyone, I have a mismatched 17UL)
//

oouf note:

Reading is important ... I had 2 courses targeted that are only seen as "free electives"
