Graduate Study in Europe?
#1
Have any Americans here done a degree in Europe? (a B&M degree, not DL) I really, really, really want to do my master's degree in Germany when I have finished my bachelor's here. I've done some research, & universities in Germany will supposedly absorb your bachelor's credit (or most of it) from the US & you can start your master's where the bachelor's left off. I'm really excited about the 500€/semester tuition (not so much about the income tax rates, but how much can I possibly work while in school full-time anyway? :p )

So... any experience, thoughts, advice??

Go for it!!!

My oldest son is currently over in Vienna living with his German girlfriend. Smile They are moving back to Bavaria in a couple of weeks.

There are a lot of scholarships available and there are a lot of Masters degree programs in Germany that are taught in English, paticularly in Munich. DAAD - International Programmes in Germany 2009/2010

Good forum here Toytown Germany

I'm partial to Bavaria/ Munich having spent a lot of time over there. It's beautiful, the Alps are close by, you can be in Northern Italy in less than three hours by train, and the city is rich in culture.

International: Studentenwerk München

As far as work, it is popular for English speaking students to teach/tutor German students wanting to become proficient in English. On another note, you can also take German language courses over there for free. They offer the service to recent immigrants.

Good luck chasing your dream!

Thanks guys Big Grin

Oh my goodness, I read the toytown forum obsessively!! I am currently absorbed in the "strange habits of germans" & "great things about living germany" threads Big Grin

Oh, & something I wanted to add, I hope to be proficient enough by then to study in German, although I will be taking advantage of those language classes for sure!!!
