Excelsior Math Requirement, Help!
#1
I just got my official evaluation from Excelsior today. I had them remove me from the BS program in Criminal Justice and enroll me in the AS in Liberal Arts.

I figured I might as well get my AS on the way to my Bachelors.

O.K. so here is the deal, I am 3 units away from getting my degree.

I need the 1 unit Info Literacy class which I am taking at PennFoster (just waiting for the proctored exam to arrive) and I also need 2 units to satisfy the Natural Science/Math Distribution Requirements.

Can anyone tell me if these are upper division or lower division? Can I clep out of the Nat Science/Math by taking a biology clep or college math clep?

I would also consider taking an easy math class if available at Penn Foster.

Anyone who knows please help. I am sooooo close I can almost taste it. hilarious

Thanks Brian. I think I will take the Biology clep to meet this distribution requirement. If I do that and take the math, I might also be able to remove an old "D" that I received 20 years ago for a colleg algebra class I took in high school.

How do I get Excelsior to remove some grades and leave others on my transcripts? I want to raise my GPA. If I use the old "D" to get my associates, am I locked into keeping that class on my transcript for perpetuity or can I replace it for my BS by clepping or taking a class???

Thanks,

Similar story here-- After much thought, I ultimately decided to take a stepping-stone approach-- get an AS from COSC just to get one "in the bag", then go on for the bachelor's. I didn't start out as close to the finish line as you did-- I had seven requirements to finish if I remember right-- but I'm now down to three.

The advice on math given here on math is pretty sound. I would expect Excelsior not to transfer the D, though.

And as far as old bad grades go. . . When you go for your BA, take non-CLEP (e.g. DSST, ECE) exams wherever you can-- those usually get letter grades and will boost your GPA.

Thanks petedude. I really appreciate how open and honest everyone is and eager to share experiences. I am so excited to almost have the A.S. degree that I can't stand it.

I have ordered the Technical Math 1 course from PennFoster. Haven't decided if that is the route I will go just for the sake of time. I may use their info for study material and then go for the clep anyway.

Has anyone taken the Technical Math class at PennFoster? How long does it take for them to issue final grades and ship out transcripts to other schools?

Thanks everyone for your help.
