Environment & Humanity DSST Score System
#1
I am taking this test tomorrow 3/19 and I am trying to figure out the score system of this test. The test has over 100 questions and see people posting that they got a 49 or 56 or 71. What exactly does that mean? They got 49 or 56 right out of a possible 100 questions? To me a 49 would seem like failing.

Have you every taken the SAT? The score you get is called a scaled score. Your raw score is the number correct. On CLEP/DSST exams, they do give you a raw score, but rather a scaled score. Different exams have different raw scores required, but the scaled score is the same (for the new exams at least). But with all that said, you actually do need to get about half right on the actual exam to pass. This is what the average C student in college will score (for the normed exams).
CLEPS Passed: 10 DSST Passed: 11 TECEPS: 1

PrLoko-isms
Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

The scores are based on a mathematical formula to match the passing score (of any exam with a passing score of two digits) to the average score of "C" students who took the actual exam. They basically give the exams to people to test how they do and then set the scoring to match. The scores are scaled so that you get the same number correct as the "C" student score in order to pass. Read the description for "Norm Referenced" scoring on this link: http://getcollegecredit.com/assets/pdf/D...coring.pdf

Note that on exams with scores of 400 to pass (out of 500), the passing scores are set to a percentage correct which varies depending on the form given (see page two of the above link for the percentages).

Using the technical data sheets (http://getcollegecredit.com/images/uploa...100108.pdf), you can look at Environment & Humanity and find that they give this info:

-Scores are 46 for C, 53 for B, and 55 for A (noting you get a Pass at most schools for meeting the C score)
-Two forms are available, one had 995 students and the other had 831 students
-One exam has 95 questions and the other has 104 questions
-The average grade was 66 & 67 percent for the exam takers

Basically it is a complex formula of numbers but tells you that you don't need a huge score to meet their passing score, the score to pass is not published though (just averages of all students).

Not sure if that helps or just causes more confusion for you, but good luck.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

I understand now. I was looking at the testing score from a traditional point of view. I never took the SAT. I'm pretty confident I will pass tomorrow; the info on the specific feedback forum has helped alot.
