O-O-P TESC Scenarios
#1
OOP= Out of Pocket Smile

I thought it was catchy, but on to the real subject. Hoping this isn't a ridiculously stupid question and that I'll actually be entitled to use the full $5,500 as I'm not sure how things are broken up since TESC has 12 semesters.

I did the math on completing classes via my cheap online CC and compared them against TESC assuming part-time and full-time statuses. Please see attached spreadsheet below.

My question is, wouldn't it just make more sense for me to sign up under the Comprehensive Tuition Plan and aim for 36 credits by this December, which is when my FA stops, I'm assuming. This way I get the full PELL $5,500 AND would only have 9 credits to worry about, since I only need 45 to graduate. TESC advisor told me they have 12 semesters...but now I have to think about if it's doable.

Sure, I'll probably graduate in 2012, but IF this saves me a few thousand dollars, perhaps it would be worth it. It seems as though Comprehensive covers Enrollment, etc.

Clearly, my CC is not the best option, so I shaded it in grey, just for reference. I hope this makes sense! I'm an out-of-state-resident so TESC's Comprehensive Tuition is $7,190. It sounded expensive at first, but I guess the keyword is COMPREHENSIVE.

I realize that books/materials are not included in any of these scenarios, but have already accounted for that.

I guess this is just a YES or NO kind of question. I just want to be 100% sure that I am understanding this correctly and have the
gist of it.

Hope one can open my file. I'm also thinking this may be useful for out-of-state TESC-ers to do a comparison :-)

36 credits in six months isn't doable unless it's by testing out via CLEP and DSST, and this obviously wouldn't be. You probably don't actually need to take any classes anyway.

Yeah I thought that would REALLY be pushing it, so I should stick to that 6-credit plan I posted within that spreadsheet.

HOWEVER, if you pay for the Comprehensive tuition, say for instance, on July 1st, 2011 do you have until July 1st, 2012 to complete your 36 credits? On top of that, since I got FA, would it be paid for upfront and I can take until 2012 to complete? I'm sure it cannot be THAT wonderful and work that way. I'd think that it depends on how many credits I am taking at THAT time.

You think I may not even need to take any classes? I guess I will find out once I enroll and actually have the right to ask questions lol. I'm knocking out ALEKS math courses, English Comp and A&I Lit. before I enroll, because I'm almost positive those things I need for any degree path I'm taking, regardless. :-p

If the UL scenario I laid out for you on the Nat Sci & Math Area of Study UL courses can be pursued, you shouldn't have to (unless you consider ALEKS classes, which technically they are, but aren't comparable to the time and expense of typical courses). AFAIK, you should be able to test out of everything else- LL Area of Study (if needed) and anything else be it Gen Ed or electives.

You can use an entire calendar year to do the 36 credits, but why would you want to do it like that- the difficult way? Take the path of least resistance and knock things out via testing. Time is money (so is aggravation, BTW).

No idea about FA and its implications, sorry. The Comp Tuition scenario looks more expensive as well as much more time-consuming.

My understanding of pell grants is that you must take 12 credits in the fall semester and 12 in the spring for a total of 24 minimum per academic year. I'm not sure how tesc handles this being on a 12 semester rolling program but I would expect that you would still need 24 credits in house during an academic year to get your full pell grant.
