There's no point - Walmart & Amazon offer tuition assistance, but really, it's just a bonus, and I can't imagine that most people working there make it all the way through a degree anyway. Both have huge churn, and both have lots of employees working lots of hours, making it difficult to find time to take classes.
I think it's mostly PR.

Kind of surprising Amazon hasn't already done this since they've bought up so many businesses over the years.

Definitely good PR, plus there's tax incentives for employers to offer tuition reimbursement. There's a reason that employers who offer assistance typically offer $5,250/year -- that's the amount per employee they can write off. They're not doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.

I would be very suprised if a trillion-dollar company decided to buy some two-bit college in the middle of nowhere.
They would likely target a large enrollment college that already had 10's of thousands of students.
Now if a company such as Chegg decided to buy a college, that would be ironic!

Exactly! And, BTW, I was in HR way back in 1990, and that $5,250 amount WAS THE SAME AMOUNT! Yes, the IRS has not increased the amount companies can write off for 30+ years!

Remember that you have to be up and running for at least two years for most accrediting bodies to even consider you for accreditation. If you are confident that the existing structure can pass standards, it's a much better investment to buy an existing one and get it accredited (or in this case get an upgrade to legacy RA vs NA) than it would be to start your own and hope to get accredited down the line. Much bigger customer base once you're accredited, obviously.

It's been a little while now. California Metropolitan University has been granted membership to the IACBE which is one of the steps towards CHEA accreditation.
I think we're witnessing the birth of a new university player and hopefully in 5-10 years a new online accredited school we can recommend to others.
