Hello Tarnum and Welcome 2 IC!

The decision to go with TESC or Excelsior will be yours and yours alone. However, I will say that if you indeed plan on going to grad school, I personally would choose Excelsior. The main reason is because of TESC's grading policy.

All of the grades you've accumulated won't mean a hill of beans at TESC. They will not be factored into your GPA. Only courses taken through TESC warrant a grade. Plus, the vast majority of graduate schools require at least 60 graded credits.

Another advantage to choosing Excelsior is because they give letter grades for the bulk of the Dantes (DSST) exams. In addition, all the grades you've earned thus far will transfer over to Excelsior and WILL be factored into your GPA. They also have payment plans available to pay your tuition in monthly installments...unlike TESC.

That is so awesome that you speak three different languages...WOW! Unfortunately, there aren't any CLEP or DSST exams for Russian or Hebrew! I would definitely call or email TESC and Excelsior and ask them if there is any way you would be able to show proficiency and get college credit for that. You should definitely be able to get something out of it.

I will help you put a degree plan together with the information you've provided. I should be able to tackle it within the next 2 to 3 days...unless someone else beats me to it...(which I'm sure somebody will!!!)

I wish you well on your educational journey and if there is anything else I can help you with...just ask or send me a private message.

Peace be with you always.

Pakah!

From a loyal degree seeker,

Marshall

P.S: Are your credits from the community college semester credits or quarter credits? I/we would definitely need that info to put a solid degree plan together.

Thank you for your help Marshall, you have been very informative.
I believe my CC (Luzerne County Community College) goes by semester credits.
Also I have some classes I have received "F" in, what could I do about them so they don't harm my GPA.

Excelsior accepts NYU Foreign Language Proficiency Exams, they have Russian and Hebrew:

This really helps. I did know that TESC is not good for grad studies.
I also want to enroll into an MBA in a good school after my Bachelors. I guess I should go with Excelsior as well. What about Charter Oak, are they any good?

You have to provide all of your transcripts when you apply to a grad school anyway, so I don't see why it would matter if TESC doesn't put the grade on their transcript. Most schools only put graded credits on the transcript that you earned at that particular school. It seems like Excelsior is the only school that does it differently.

I prefer TESC since it is a state school, and you can get financial aid.

The F's won't be accepted, so they won't be transcripted. However, they won't be completely hidden. If you go on to grad school or have to provide all your transcripts for any reason, the F's will always be there.

What would be the most simple way to get them changed or removed?
I also had to withdraw "w" from some classes.

Your welcome Tarnum!!! That's what we are all here for. As far as getting them removed...your guess would be as good as mine. I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me can help you out with that one.

You can also get Financial Aid at Excelsior as well. They do have a school
code.

I wasn't knocking TESC just because of their grading policy. I was initially going to go with TESC. I also understand that a vast number of schools have similar policies. For my purposes (and many others) you are definitely going to need a GPA. For most people like me who plan on testing out of the majority of their degree...TESC wouldn't have 60 graded credits or even 10 for that mattter! And taking one TESC course just to get a grade still won't help your cause any.

From an employer's standpoint, I believe having a "well-rounded" GPA is a big issue...especially for employers who ACTUALLY check transcripts. And I'm willing to bet that a person with 60 graded credits and a GPA of 3.7 would beat the person with ONE ACTUAL GRADE along with 20 courses listed as "Pass/Fail" on his transcript with a 4.0 GPA.

Just my opinion. I would just hate for someone to go through all the hassle of graduating from TESC only to find hisself/herself going back to take courses because of a GPA issue.

Tarnum...as far as the F's go....remember--- where there is a will, there is a way. I wouldn't sweat it much. Do the best you can NOW to raise your GPA and if need be for grad school...bust your royal butt for the GMAT. I believe that if you can score high on the GMAT you can have some material to plead a good case for an admissions committee.

I believe Jennifer has answered this before, but you need to check with the school where you have the F's and see what their policy is. At some schools you can replace the F with a passing grade by retaking the course. At others, however, both grades are part of the official record. A withdrawal is not a big deal. The elite grad schools may look negatively on them (or at least ask about them), but, otherwise they shouldn't hurt you. The exception is if they are WF (withdrawal failing) if your school has such a distinction. These are often treated like F's.
