Got Fema courses done now what ?
#1
I currently have over 70 fema courses done majority say they are worth credit. (Been doing Fema courses since 2008), but what should I actually do with them, almost got my associates in Criminal Justice from Columbia College of Missouri completed, was considering changing over to TESC for emergency management once the associates is done,I have also clepped English comp w/o essay.

I'm a Military police officer in the Army, and currently in Afghanistan so i have nothing else to do when not working.

What kinda of job can i get where they courses would benefit me ?
Any government agencies interested in people who completed these courses ?
How can Fema coures actully help me in life ?

Make sure you check out the TESC list of accepted FEMA courses because they don't take all of the ones listed as earning college credit. They take 32 of them. See the link below (and click on the image in the post) for the March 2012 list of approved FEMA courses and note that a variation such as an A or B after the number is just a revised test and they should take them still.

Well your at TESC you might as well pick up the AAS - Environmental, Safety, and Security Technologies degree since its area of study can be completely filled with FEMA courses. You'll need to meet the general education requirements too so things like your CLEP English Comp without essay may present an issue.

Once your ready, pay the $75 and get an evaluation with transcripts from your other college, any military training, and your FEMA credits.

As far as what to do with the degree I'll let someone else answer that since I have no clue...
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

I work in Emergency Management for a hospital. FEMA is a big part of that and many of the courses are required. Same is true of Police/Fire/EMS....though to a lesser extent.

TESC and Charter Oak both accept the courses for credit...though 30 or so credits will likely be the max you can squeeze into a degree. The TESC AAS in Envirement/Safety/Security is a pretty easy one to bang out...makes use of about 32 FEMA credits.

Clackamus CC in Oregon (difficult to finish depending on where you live...though there may be an exception for military IDK) and Red Rocks CC in Colorado have programs that include FEMA credit, Red Rocks being your best bet. Both schools have transfer agreements for their AS/AAS programs.

Guam CC also has a program...but there is a residency requirement.

Frederick CC is in Maryland just down the street from FEMA EMI. They offer programs but are expensive for what you get...though again with the military it may be a possibility.

Best of luck, thats a lot of FEMA!

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Did Columbia College take any of your FEMA credits in the CJ program toward your associates degree?

If so, how did they transfer in (i.e. electives or specific courses?)

You should look into TESC. They award credit for many military programs. Also many of the military programs already have ACE credits assigned, which would be accepted by COSC and TESC. You can search here: ACE Military Guide | index.htm

The BS HSEP (Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness) at TESC will accept up to 42 FEMA courses that they allow. According to TESC though, the list is not a valid source of information after April as they are no longer providing a list. They advise to email them what you have done or want to do to get an answer. However, I have taken 36 of the ones you listed and they have all been transcripted at TESC.

The two programs at TESC that work the best with FEMA are the AAS in Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies and the BS in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. If you are interested in looking at TESC, give them a call. They are very good about answering questions and you might be able to get an email address from someone to send in your list for approval of credit advice.

Best of luck to you!
TESC - AAS in Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies (Enrolled)
TESC - BS Homeland Security & Emergency Preparation (Enrolled)
FEMA - 36 Credits + PDS (Transcripted at TESC) - Currently working on more...
USFA - 3 Credits
Straighter Line: College Algebra, US History I, World Civ I, Intro to Criminal Justice, A&P I, Biology I
ALEKS - Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra
Test Drive College - Comp I
