Can someone expand on the whole score vs "pass/fail"? I need to pass the College Math CLEP in order to get into a January class at a local college, and the school says they only accept a "64-80" on it. Is that correct, or am I misunderstanding the college catalog? Until I read that, I thought that CLEPs were pass/fail only.
ANSWER: When you take the test you will receive a score. Colleges are free to set which scores they consider a passing grade for which they will award credit. Some colleges count a 55 as passing, while others may require a 60, whereas the American Council on Education (ACE) only recommends a passing score of 50. The bottom-line is that it is up to your college. Most colleges also treat CLEP tests as either pass or fail, however they are free to award a letter grade that depends upon your score, but once again this is up to your college.
P.S. I don't believe your question or my response belongs in this forum. Maybe a moderator could move them somewhere more appropriate?
