I don't care if it was it Haiti, Africa, China, or the US. When HUMAN BEINGS have been hurt by a disaster like this the whole world should send aid.

Bah - Take it easy on the guy. Everyone's entitled to their opinions. The personal attacks are never cool.
Haiti's been a mess for a long time. America may not have caused that mess, but we didn't do a whole lot to stop it either. Most of the people have been living in rampant poverty for decades. As I said earlier, the earthquake is a tragedy, but at least the world's attention is firmly on the country for now. Hopefully they'll finally get some help building their infrastructure, fixing their political system, and stamping out the rampant corruption that's allowed 1% of the richest people to own almost half of the entire nation's wealth. I'm extremely anti "spread the wealth" but those numbers are seriously off. You can't run a country like that.
I'm watching with interest. Hopefully the world won't pack up and move to another emergency next week. It would be nice if we could stick with a job long enough to actually do some lasting good. The tsunami relief efforts were pretty impressive. Shows what the world can do when it pulls together.
In any case, go easy on the OP please. Just because you may not want politics to get involved, other people don't think the same way. You can bet that there are tons of people right this instant who are trying to think of a way to turn this tragedy to their political advantage. Is it wrong? Absolutely, but it's happening nonetheless.

Shame on you and everything you "think" is important. Maybe you should study Haiti and it's history before casting hateful thoughts into the universe. Maybe you should "pretend" that your human for a few minutes before spewing such venom, MAYBE you should "act" like an American and care about your fellow man.
I watch so many men and women come back from war and many are homeless now in shelters. I see so many children in our own streets raped, abused and killed daily and no funding for them. No funding for the Vets no funding for seniors that need health care so desperately. But im supposed to care about another country. Sorry American I am and those that are American I stand by and help. As for other human life Im sorry that individuals lost their lives. But again your basing your logic off emotion of what you see on tv or personal opinion. Do you care about the countless individuals that die every day in Nigeria then ? How about in India where something so simple as a blood transfusion costs peoples lives daily. Its life, it happens. As stated my point of the discussion was why all the media attention? I did not see this for the Philippines and India when it occured to them a few years back. I was wondering if this is a political stand point or financial. If the comments struck you deeply then we need to do more for all of humankind not just one island.

Actually there was a HUGE relief effort for India, you just may not remember.(More than 7 billion dollars donated) You may be right some of us are "prisoners of the moment" but cant dismiss this as "Its life, it happens". BTW alot us in here are military and have seen the same things as you! Its still doesnt mean we shouldnt care about human life. Maybe you should just support the President and be happy the money is being used for positive efforters.
"Dont know if Im just being heartless but hasnt this island had decades of civil unrest and war? Dont they have a country full of infested HIV cases?
Dont they have a population of gangs that make the Bloods and Crips look like community organizers in comparison ?"
BTW these are ignorant comments you made

Any action can be considered "political" in one way or another, the point is to do the right thing. OP is wrong on this issue, politically, socially and morally. As another posted pointed out, there IS funding for tragedies in India, Nigeria and elsewhere. Vets DO have funding, there are funds for poor in America. No the system is not perfect, but it's what we have. As the "leader of the free world" it's our obligation to help when we can. Yes, what we see on tv and read about on the net add drama to the situation but it's warranted.
I can only wonder what your views on concentration camps would've been. That was a political situation and it had no direct bearing on the U.S., but it was a human tragedy that needed the support of the world.
The need to aid Haiti is not a matter of personal interests or agendas, it's a matter of humanity as a whole.

That has to be the most assinine and inflammatory comment that I've ever on this forum. :puke:
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

As I recall we didn't go to war with any country or power based on concentration camps. We only dealt with them because we invaded a country and took over there problems.

Oh also, I do believe in helping others, but I think we should be repaid with money, material, or respect.

I don't know....I see those people without food, water, and shelter and I feel obscene sitting here doing nothing. It's heartbreaking. I don't care who benefits politically just as long as they (the Haitians) are helped. Why does it get so complicated?
