I can't imagine them turning away someone who was a manager in their role in service to the country. I'm sure that would suffice.
Patten nor WGU are at all likely to call your boss or even verify your employment. Talk with them with a little maturity and be able to speak about a little leadership/management and I think you will be on without much problem.
Just making sure you understand what I wrote I was a manager at a Walmart (for about a 1yr) before joining the army (been in the army for 2yrs now). But thanks for the answer my old bosses no longer work at the Walmart I used to work at and the new ones never met me. So I would had a hard time having references from my old job.

hardly the same
what real world experience do you expect a person with a PhD in American History to have ?
or a PhD in Mathematics ?
if you're a professor in molecular biology or genetics or math then isn't part of your job to do research at the university ?
you apply for and get grants, you conduct research, you publish your findings
you also teach
sure, you could have a PhD in math and then get a job on wall street calculating derivatives or whatever
but other than working for the NSA, isn't the top math work going to be done by PhDs at the top universities while doing research funded by government or corporate grants ?
I'd rather learn biology from someone who just received their PhD in molecular biology and who has never had "real-world" experience than learn accounting from an MBA who has zero work experience
and if I were a human Resources person and saw a csv that had MBA with no work experience I'd think 2 things
1) diploma mill
2) if I give this person a job their only goal would be to stay here just long enough to have something to put on their csv and then they'd quit and move onto to something bigger and better -- so why waste my time filling out paper work to hire them

For History, some examples I could think of. Work in a Museum, National Park, walked the battlefields of the civil war, been to those sites, seen some of the iconic American history objects/landmarks in real life and not just seen them on youtube. As for Biology, been to a real lab, worked on things that a molecular biologist is supposed to work on, not just read about it in a text book.

I meant real-world experience as in a job working somewhere BEFORE they got a higher degree. Somewhere other than the insulated world of a university.
I was mostly kidding though!

OP, when no one else will give you a real chance - you should try giving yourself one. Stop looking for a boss and start looking for business mentors... as starting a business is probably one of your best options. Surely those degrees have taught you a thing or two about starting and operating a business. Find something innovative that allows people more freedom and figure out how to capitalize on it.

I wasn't kidding about what I said previously, but I agree with the "BEFORE" part. However I did mean both, in the field and before in life. People need to know their field and if they are going to teach it, they not only need to know their field, but know the people who are they are teaching/leading. Seen to many young people come out of college with no life experience, let alone any in their field.
