Help Me Decide, Excelsior or COSC

I have been leaning towards Excelsior for some time but recently I think I might have started to lean the other way. One of the deciding factors is upper level credits needed. I have 24 ul credits from two California State Universities. I think Excelsior's catalog is clear they want 30 ul credits for the Liberal Studies route. But all I could find for COSC is a requirement of 18.

My question is, for you kind people out there, am I reading these two catalogs right? Do I only need 18 ul credits for the Liberal Studies route at COSC?

I really don't want to take ul tests if I don't have to.

Have you checked out TESC? I'm a fan of them for many reasons. If you're military, which I'm guessing you are, you can enroll in their Military Degree Completion Program (MDCP). That will save you from paying the $1400 tuition. All you have to do is take 12 credits with them and no tuition. I also like that they accept FEMA credits right from FEMA, without having to go through another school and costing you more money. In addition, TESC considers 200 level courses/tests to be upper level. That increases the number of tests that are available to choose from. And since you already have some upper level credits already, there is a chance that some lower level classes you have might be counted as upper level.

I chose to go with Excelsior over TESC and COSC because of cost, the speed of getting the degree done, the payment plan, and the fact that somebody answers the phone when I call (unlike TESC).

It is much easier to fulfill upper level reqs through TESC, however, their enrollment fee is about $1000.00 more than everybody else and they don't offer a payment plan unless you get financial aid through them (which of course means you have to take classes through them.)

I turned down COSC because you have to apply for graduation and have everything in 4 months before the graduation date. Excelsior confers degrees every month and I believe usually within 4-5 weeks of turning in your last transcript or class. (Also, I did not want to have to fulfill that Speech requirement)

Excelsior does have the most UL requirements, but you could easily fill in the 6 you have left with ECE exams.

Go with Excelsior. They gave me the most for my military training. A couple more classes and I'll be done with my associates.

Will I only receive one fema credit per course? I'm curious how it all works.
