Help on Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union
#1
I passed the Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union yesterday with a 52!hilarious Minimum passing score was 45. I had been studying for 4 weeks! I looked around on this forum and found a post from 2006...Infoplease.com was a suggestion and it was brief but still helpful. I also used wikipedia. just type in Russian History and they have it all organized into sections and a table of contents at the top. I have put together flashcards from Wikipedia if anyone would like them.
The test itself, like everyone has been saying, is very difficult. So be PREPARED!

I could use any help you could give. I falled the Drug and Alcohol Abuse test by 1 and I'm now scrambling to do another upper level test to make up for it. I purchasd the DSST test book for the Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union and could use any notes or help you could give. I'll be taking the test in about 2 weeks.

Hey everybody...sorry about the delays, I haven't been on IC for a couple of days. I'm going to try to put a link on this thread to the notes and an outline of events you need to know, but if I can't, I'll email them to you.

Okay, there are flashcards I made from information I got from Wikipedia attached. Also, there is a brief timeline provided at Timeline: USSR that was helpful.

As for events you need to know...

-The Revolution of 1917

-The Russian Civil War

-The different parties that formed during the revolutionary period

-The Soviet Union's relationship with the rest of the world during the World Wars

-Collectivization

-The Purges

-The decisive battles during WWII for the USSR

-The starting and ending points of WWI and WWII

-You should also keep in mind all of the rulers of the USSR and when their reigned. For Example, after the revolution it was Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Andropov, Chernenko, and finally Gorbachov.

-You should also know how and why the ruler's ended their reign. For Example, what was the main reason Khrushchev was ousted?

-Also, how did the USSR handle the Chernobyl Crisis.

-One final note-and this is something I wish I would of been stronger in-you need to know which satellite states wanted indepedence, got independence, didn't get it, and who joined the new government at the end of the USSR and who didn't.

This is an upper-level as you know, and so there is A LOT more information packed into it than most of the lower-level courses. I don't know about anybody here, but I started prep for this test blank, meaning, I didn't have any schema or familiarity...and I still passed.

I hope this was helpful.Smile
