It's really great to see so many homeschoolers on the board! I started when I was 14 and would often take a CLEP exam after I had taken the equivalent highschool course. I also live in Idaho so we had no regulation.

Homeschool mom here. I'm in Oklahoma where homeschools are independent of public schools. Anytime my son completes a CLEP, I add it to his highschool transcript. Sometimes it's listed as a one semester course, sometimes a year long course. In every case, it's been a subject I would have taught anyway. I simply chose to teach it at an advanced level.
University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma - 32 credits
Oklahoma City Community College - 9 credits
Charter Oak State College - 3 credits
Penn Foster - 4 credits
BYU Public Speaking (IS) - 3 credits
UP- 21 credits
FEMA - 14 credits
ALEKS - Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra/Trig, Intro to Statistics, Behavioral Science Statistics, and Business Statistics
CLEPS - Analyzing Lit (55), Human Growth and Development (65), Educational Psychology (63), American Lit (64)
DSSTS - Here's to Your Health (435), Environmental Science (58), Business Ethics (442)
Completed my COSC BS with a concentration in Psychology in Jan. 2012.
Completed Penn Foster Animal Care: Dogs Certificate in April 2012
Completed Penn Foster Natural Health Care for Pets Certificate in May 2012

Awesome group of moms!! (and graduates!)
I think- but I could be wrong- that the OP was not a homeschooler and wondered why the high school wouldn't take CLEP for dual enrollment... maybe I misunderstood:confused:

Jennifer,
You are right. After the other homeschool Moms spoke up, I decided to chime in.

No, I'm glad you did! Actually what you are doing with your kids is exactly the way my son's high school transcript will be completed.

Thank you for articulating my approach so well. I'm in a very similar situation with my 18 year old son. We live in Texas. I also have a 20 year old daughter using the CLEP approach for her full degree.

Hi! I'm a mom to 4 young sons- so far only one is old enough to start earning college credit.
CLEP does not count as high school credit because high school credits are calculated using Carnegie Units. (contact hours) This is different from college (even dual enrollment) which uses competency-based standards.
So, in high school, you only need a prescribed number of HOURS-not ability.
In college, you need a prescribed demonstrable KNOWLEDGE-not hours.
Are you a student or a parent? Just curious.
That's funny, I never knew that.
Actually I am both a parent and a student. I decided on a career change so I am now back at the univeristy. My classes are specialized (i.e. like the spec. program courses and clinicals) or I would be clepping myself.
I am helping my daughter age 22 to clep a few classes, and trying to prepare my daughter age 16 to clep some of these courses as well.
I als have a one but he is not yet old enough earn college credits. BTW is that age 15 or 16?

I am a homeschooling mom of six. My 16 year old has earned 68 college credits so far and I am just starting my younger teenager on earning dual high school/college credits through testing and ACE reviewed Penn Foster courses. Cleps can count for high school credit here. Three college credits would equal one high school credit.
Welcome to the forum! There are many wonderful people here.
Danielle
That's really interesting. I am going to check into that to see if the Penn Foster idea would work here. Can you PM me on how that works?
If you PM me your private email I will email you there.
My daughter, age 16, is not homeschooled. She is in the public high school here. Hats off to all the homeschoolers, I just don't know how you do it.

We are in the public school. Just curious, why are you waiting until he's a senior?
And how do Clep test results count as his final grades?
I'm not sure what state you are in, but I don't think that would work here.
But it is a interesting thought.
