matt Wrote:Everyone is 100% different. Joel you're an anomaly - very few people have the test taking skills / intelligence to pull off your sort of pace.
I work 10-12 hours a day and have three kids. I take two "traditional" classes online every semester, and at least one CLEP / DSST exam a month. For me this IS my maximum.
For anyone new reading this - they key is simple - make progress ... the pace is not important. If your situation is such that you need a month to prepare for an exam - well that's still a 36 credit hour / year pace!
Best,
Matt
Matt,
I agree that everyone's pace is different. I'm in the Army, work very long days and have six children. I just happen be be fairly adept at taking tests.
Lina,
The only pace that's important is your own. It doesn't matter if it takes one day or one month (or longer), just study until you're ready, then knock out the test and move onto the next one.

I know that I could probably do multiple exams per day, but I have chosen not to just because I don't want to take the risk and spend all that time testing at once. I think one time I did 4-5 exams in like 7-10 days, but those were subjects I was familiar with so little preparation was required. Usually I am pretty limited for times to take tests too. It seems like some people here can practically walk in to a testing center and take them whenever or at least schedule them for any day. Sometimes there are only a few days a month when I can get in.
As others have said, only do what you can handle. Don't take a ton of exams at once unless you know you can do it or have a reason to. Some people here are a little crazy with this (and I mean that in a good way

) but most of them have either done a lot of exams already or are able to do them free through the military.

I CAN'T TAKE MORE THAN ONE TEST IN ONE DAY. GUESS I AM JUST SO SCARED OF TAKING TESTS.
While I have taken as many as 3 in one day, I found it nicer to just do one at a time.

That all depends on the tests.
A few weeks ago I took 7 days off work.
Monday: Intro. Psych, SS&H
Tuesday:Lifespan & Dev, Fund. Counseling
Wednesday: Astronomy
Thursday: Race to save the planet
Friday Saturday Sunday: Straighterline Managerial accounting course.
Those were all pretty straightforward exams, lot's of overlap in some of them. So it was easy to get ready for at least the first 2 days all together. It also depends what you "need" to get. I've been trying for "A's", so I tend to spend a little more effort. I was okay with rushing all those tests, because I do not need all of those credits to complete my degree plan (with the exception of Accounting). So the "B" I received in Lifespan and Development might never make it to Excelsior. I would not have rushed core courses or courses that I needed to transcript no matter what.

I will take 4 exams this month beginning on 1/22, but not all on the same days. Next month I'll probably fall off the proctored exam wagon like I did in August. I go on binges like that... just me I guess.

Due to a slow start getting my daughter to school, I got to the testing center late and only had an hour to take exams.
I was only able to take 2 tests today instead of the 3 I had hoped. I decided on Into to Business and Technical Writing. Got a 65 on Intro to Business and a 59 on Technical Writing.

some of you guys are amazing, and some of you are a lot like me
i can only take one at a time. I could probably do more, but my parents and my coach think i could do better if i concerntrate all of my efforts.
I usually take one every 1-2 weeks.
Joel, would you recommend to anyone else taking it cold? I know you're probably older than a lot of us, and you probabaly have more practical knowledge, but i took a lot of theses classes in high school
