Hi guys,
I got a copy of transcripts and, aside from being reminded at my miserable attempt at college in 1982/83 (C student), I found that I have the following GPA Units/Units earned on file:
1982 FALL:
BUS100 Intro Bus 3.0/3.0
BUS110 BUS LAW 3.0/3.0
NS EVOLUTION/COSMOS 6.0/6.0
PE108AD STRENGTH TRAINING 0/2.0
TOTAL 12.0/14.0... (I will spare you my crummy GPA)
1983 SPRING:
ENGL 100 FRESH COMP 3.0/3.0
HIST177 ECON HIST-US 3.0/3.0
PE108AD STRENGTH TRAINING 0/2.0
PSYCH 100 INTRO PSYCH 3.0/3.0
TOTAL 9.0/12.0... (I will spare you my crummy GPA)
GRAND TOTAL 21.0/26.0
(Note: I Dropped all my Fall 1983 classes when I quit, but failed to drop BIS100 INTRO COMPUTER, and got an F. Guess what field I have been in for 25 Yrs? You guessed it: IT... engineering, supervisory level management, and consulting sales for a large public company. Anyway, this left me with 3.0 GPA Units but obviously 0.0 units earned for BIS100.)
My goal: First get my AA or AS. Then if I am addicted, pursue BA or BS.
I dont really care which - mainly looking to just get something done here, so that if I ever have to job hunt I wont be the old guy with no degree but tons of experience.
I applied to TESC the other day. If you can advise me what batch of CLEPs to pursue, I will get on it. One of you folks suggested I could enroll with TESC, send them my transcripts, and while they are thinking about what units will apply, I could just start CLEPping. So I am ready to do that but a little confused as to what CLEPs to go attach first. I wish there was a "DO THIS" list for a guy like me. Appreciate your support!!
Thank you,
Rob

They will take 80 CC credits so you are all set with that. Now what do you want to major in thats the question?

Thanks! As for Major, I honestly don't care. Looking for easiest path. I t might help to know what I have been doing:
Ive been in IT Services for 25 years. I was certified in several computer technologies over the years (Novell, Microsoft, EMC). In fact, early on for 4 years I had my own company. After that I got into jobs with large Corporations.
I have been attended numerous management training courses and seminars, TQM, Project Management and such. Ive written extensively detailed multi-million dollar proposals, legal contracts, etc. I've managed large teams to perform the work I have sold to a client. I manage client relationships to high degree of satisfaction.
I say all this only to steer your guidance for me in the right direction... based on what I know most of, Business degree seems to make the most sense. A Computer major...? I don't know. One thing I don't like (hate?) is complex math. I have an insane fear of complex math. I do well with complex ideas and I'm very good at organizing them logically, but when that extends to complicated math my brain goes numb. I'm more of a visual learner and communicator.
- strengths: technical, written, project management, team management, basic business management.
- I wonder if I need to worry about a major now? Or just start on an AA/AS and get that out of the way, and think about majors later?
Sorry for the lengthy reply. Open to suggestions!

This sounds like where I'm at ;-)
I went with EC's BS Liberal Studies. If you've enrolled in TESC, maybe they have a AA/AS in Liberal Studies as well?
For CLEP/DSST's that may come easy for you are:
CLEP: Information Systems and Computer Apps
DSST: Intro to Computers
DSST: MIS
DSST: Technical Writing
As for TESC, I believe you could also transfer up to 18 FEMA courses directly for credit to cover your electives. For an AA/AS, 12 electives are needed I believe.

Yes TESC does have a General studies AA, you can only use one of the Intro to computers or Info systems at TESC. Technical writing DSST should be a good easy humanities credit to knock out. TESC will not report your previous GPA so you might want to think about taking one course to get a GPA from them.

Many of the core business exams should also be a breeze for you- e.g., Principles of Management CLEP, Principles of Marketing CLEP and the Business Ethics DSST. I assume you want to get the BSBA in CIS?

Thanks Linda. I guess it didnt dawn on me that TESC will take credits from both CLEP and DSST. So I guess you are saying a mix is a good idea? I was thinking of just doing all via CLEP.
Also, I have heard TESC only does pass/fail, no grade letters or GPA, for tested out units from CLEP. I'm OK with that. But are you saying if I take just one course from TESC and get a good GPA, then that is the GPA they would report on a transcript later on? Seems too good to be true... great idea!

Yenisei, thanks I will start on those 3 probably first then.
To answer your question, I was thinking first at a goal of getting AS... then perhaps likely go to BSBA in CIS.

Costic thanks. Do you think I should wait until TESC looks at my transcripts to get started, or should I just jump in?

I jumped right in while waiting for my official transcript which took a month and a half. During this time, I also created an excel sheet to chart out exams based on info found on this forum that mirrored the requirements for my BS LS. This helped to stay motivated and build momentum while I was willing.
I hope that helps.
