American Government CLEP
#1
Hi,

Has anyone recently taken the American Government CLEP? What are your thoughts?

I have the PDF download from College Board and have the textbook American Politics Today by Bianco and Canon, but was wondering if anyone had any success with other materials?

I have to get atleast a 60.

Thanks so much.

Are you an InstantCert (IC) (www.instantcert.com) subscriber? The Flash Cards are invaluable and they own this forum. As a subscriber, you gain access to the Exam Specific Forum where people post tips for studying for a specific CLEP or DSST exam.

I passed 7 DSST exams in 60 days (March 31 - May 31, 2016) using IC Flash Cards and the Exam Specific Forum. You just have to jump in and do it.

CliffsNotes American Government is also good for this. You can find it free on the internet. Good luck!

This is one of the harder CLEPs. The REA book is very helpful, as are flashcards.

Thanks so much for your responses.

Have any of you taken History of the United States I or II?

I only need 2 CLEP's to be certified as a Social Studies Teacher, so I was trying to gauge which ones I should take.

Thanks.

Son passed CLEP American Government with a 63. He used Cliff's Quick Review and the REA book.

He also watched "Crash Course: Us Government and Politics" - 20 short, entertaining videos:

He did not use InstantCert flashcards, but he did review specific feedback given by previous test-takers.

This is considered one of the more difficult exams. It was my son's lowest score to date (he has taken five CLEP exams total.)

I have taken US History 1 and passed with a 65. I wrote a timeline with all 18 presidents and the main events during each presidency and read the entire REA US History I book. I took one two full practice tests total, failed them both, and reviewed them. I also read over Barron's AP US history book, but that did not help me much. Honestly I thought I failed the exam when I clicked submit but surprisingly passed it! It had a lot about women, writers, indians, early crops, etc.

I took it a few days ago and got a 69. I think it was a pretty easy test and if you use the instant cert flash cards and know the constitution you'll be fine.

I just took this one on Friday. I found the REA book and practice quizzes+ IC flashcards to be magical. I passed without any prior knowledge (classwise).
