Ok, to receive a business degree with a concentration in HR, I need to take two or three electives. However, the only colleges that I have in my area that offer courses such as Compensation and Benefits, Staffing, Training Development, etc., is Strayer. To be honest, I do not want to pay Strayer $1500, not including books, for each course. Does anyone know of any online colleges that offer HR courses at reasonable prices? Excelsior has two courses they offer in Managing Diversity and Leadership, but again, Excelsior charges close to $1000.
I used Excelsiors course search, but seem to hit a dead-end. I already have the plan for taking HRM, Organizational Behavior and Labor Relations, but I just can not find any other courses. Someone out there must have received or is studying HR and would be able to help me.
P.S. I am taking Analyzing and Interpreting Literarture tomorrow. I do not need the credits, but will use this exam to improve my GPA, if I pass..LOL.

Well, as for cost I don't have a specific college for you- but I do have an alternate idea. IF you have to pay $$$ for these last few courses anyway, why not try to take them as grad credit (500/600 level) and "double dip" by using the classes for both degrees. At least you would increase the bang for your buck!
It would require some planning and homework. You would need to find a school offering a HR masters and go from there. You may see some rules about having your bachelor first, but I have also read about exceptions and special circumstances. It's worth asking. I have noticed University of Illinois here allows students this option after 90 credits with dept approval. I am sure each school has a policy- but shouldn't be too hard to research.
If you decide to later use the HR to get your masters, you'll have a head start (assuming you did the legwork and found courses that would work for both- you don't want to find out later that the plan won't work!).
Be careful about one other thing, I have read a few times that only credits EARNED AFTER completion of the bachelors are transferable into some masters programs. Triple check and get it in writing.
I think the highest likelihood for success would be to use the college courses from the same program that you would later decide to attend. This also might help you get approval.

Hi Blueyzz,
I found a few online HR courses at Columbia College that might be what you are looking for.
Go
here and look down the page until you see MGMT courses. The courses that I have in mind for you are:
MGMT 433 Topics: Management Training & Development
MGMT 364 Workforce Planning & Development
MGMT 365 Compensation & Benefit Systems
The downside is that each course costs $615. However, the upside is that most of these Columbia College courses do not require proctors for their online, multiple choice or true/false type exams. You will also find a detailed syllabus in pdf format for each course (very helpful).
Each course lasts 8 weeks and has a fixed schedule of work to be completed for each week of the course.
Hope this helps,
Snazzlefrag
My name is Rob

Thanks, Snaz
I also found some Thomas Edison Exams, specifically Advanced Labor Relations and Industrial Psychology. I just need to check with Excelsior about the Industrial Psychology and if that would count towards the 4 advanced courses required for the business degree.
