I just took my second CLEP exam. The first one I took was American lit and really enjoyed the IC flashcards. The flashcards were all multiple choice and I caught onto the information very quick. The second CLEP I just took was for US History 2. The IC flashcards were fill in the blank for some reason. Also the flashcards stayed the same but going to it multiple times found that the fill in the blank would be in different parts of the flashcard each time. Most of the time it was in areas that were not valuable information to know. Here is an example:
Farming on the Great ______ required a technique called dry farming, which involved plowing deeply for moisture, and required expensive agricultural machinery such as steel plows, seed drills, and windmills.
The fill in the blank should be under dry farming. Knowing that the answer is plains is not relevant information that will be on the test.
My last CLEP is biology and those once again appear to be fill in the blank again. If all our CLEP tests are multiple choice, why are the flashcards fill in the blank?

The questions are fill-in-the-blank because that ensures you actually know the material. If you're able to answer fill-in-the-blank with no trouble AND you know the info in the explanations, multiple-choice will be much easier. It just makes sure you're well prepared.

The IC flashcards are definitely faster than Study.com, but they may not cover as much information. I never fill in the blanks for the flashcards because the missing terms aren't any more important than the rest of the information on the flashcard. Just click through without answering, and read all the information on the flashcard, including the explanation.
