Are any of these courses accepted at COSC?  If so, do we know which ones?

Unfortunately, InstantCert hasn't been accepted by COSC for a while. These are the ONLY alt credit providers that COSC accepts: https://www.charteroak.edu/pla/credit-for-courses.php

Thank you!

It's odd that these two, of ALLLL the courses not to be renewed by ACE, are the most popular two courses people take to fulfill LL GEC credits on Instantcert to transfer into UMPI. Coincidence? ?

If we didn't take the finals for the courses at InstantCredit do we get a refund??? I have been enrolled for MONTHS and will be walking away from this scam with no college credits...

uncoolbilly, are you close to a college or CLEP test center? If you are, you can try doing the CLEP/MS and getting a voucher... As another option, since you've gained some knowledge in Spanish, the Sophia.org Spanish would be a great option if you couple it with other courses, doing two at a time, finish a few courses in that month.

Based on uncoolbilly's responses in the other thread, I don't think that Sophia would be right. The CLEP also has a reputation for being quite difficult, so I wouldn't recommend that to someone who just has a few months of InstantCert under their belt. From what I've heard of the ACTFL, the reading exam should work nicely in this particular circumstance, especially since only 3 credits are needed here.

Can you explain how the ACTFL process works. I googled it and think I found the website, but the menu has a lot of different options and I am not sure I am looking at the correct info.

https://www.languagetesting.com/lti/prod...ng_id/7190? $51 for the reading test.

Lots of boring text about how the RPT works: https://www.languagetesting.com/reading-...iency-test

Demo reading test here (in English): https://actfllrhtmldemo.actfltesting.org/

From what others have said, the demo test seems like it might be more difficult than the real thing.

This could be a great solution - THANK YOU.

How does this transfer to UMPI - is it just an ACE credited test?

Yep, it's just an ACE test. As long as you score sufficiently high (which seems relatively easy, especially for a language like Spanish), you'll get at least 3 credits that can be transferred to UMPI.

Before you spend money on the test, here's an easy (free) way to guestimate how many credits you might be able to get: Duolingo.

Duolingo prides itself on alignment with CEFR and ACTFL. https://www.duolingo.com/efficacy How much of this is real and how much is just Duolingo's PR department exaggerating? I don't know. But they claim that 4 units of DL should equal approximately 12 credits worth of school studies, based on the ACTFL.

So, what I would do is this: Go to Duolingo.com in an Incognito window. Say that you want to study Spanish. Don't create an account. Do the checkpoints to "complete" a unit. If you can easily get to the 5th or 6th unit on the first attempt, I would say that you should be good for at least 6 credits from the ACTFL.

I wouldn't trust this method for other languages, but it should be relatively accurate for Spanish and French.
