Actually Taking A Class---In A Classroom!
#1
Wow, how weird is this going to be? I signed up for the silly Freshman Comp to fulfill the Excelsior writing requirement (they won't accept the 6 credit CLEP that I passed). It's only 8 weeks long, two nights a week, and I know I will pass. It's this or wait 1 month for the ECE test to arrive, another week to schedule to take it, then having to wait 73 days:eek: for them to grade it. This fits my plans to finish by the end of Dec.

Studying now for Civil War, let me tell you how incredibly interesting the material is!Rolleyes Rolleyes Rolleyes

Weaver,

Attending a classroom freshman comp class will be silly, but not because of the content; it's been a good refresher on punctuation and writing styles. I am half way through ENC 1101 at a local community college and am old enough (at 40) to be the father of everyone in the classroom, with the exception of the professor and two of the students. Most of the students are 17 - 22 years old, so the discussions are giggle ridden and usually start out, "Well, my boyfriend ....." Needless to say, the only time I speak is when called upon. The one bright side of the class is that the professor is very demanding and she has a sharp dry wit; it keeps me chuckling. Good luck.

This is one of the many reasons to not go to a classroom! At least you get the teacher's respect from the start.

I agree, but at least it's on an overseas military base so most of the students will be just like me and the classes tend to be a bit more professional (from my experience anyways). I opted to take this class as it will be over in 8 weeks, I KNOW I will pass it, and I will not have to wait in agony for a pass/fail result to come crawling back in snail mail. Last year I went to the Senior NCO Acadamy for 6 weeks and we did a lot of graded writing, so I'm not too worried about the course content.

Brian,
I did see your previous post about LSU but I thought it would be too much doing this online, plus Info Literacy, plus studying for Civil War. I think it was the lack of self pacing of it all plus work and my family commitments. The structure of the classroom will be a nice change from the "winging it" mentality I've had these last 4 months. It will be nice to instanly know how I'm doing and what my score will be too. I think I've developed Post Traumatic Test Taking Syndrome caused from the weeks of waiting for a score once the test is taken. Smile Lee
