I have read that COSC and Excelsior will accept ALEKS Beginning Algebra but TESC will not. Can anyone confirm that they accept it? I keep seeing it all over both forums.

Charter Oak only takes aleks college algebra to satisfy the math requirement if memory serves. Intermediate may count as liberal arts elective.....whatley may have better current info though

BS Charter Oak State College November 2011 AS in EMS August 2010 I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form. Thread; COSC AS using FEMA http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...total.html

Maybe college math would be a better option if Excelsior or COSC does accept beginning algebra. I struggled with Algebra in high school.

College math is a doable test...and worth 6 credits. I really like using ALEKS/Khan to study, while working your way through the Comex book Review for the CLEP* General Humanities Examination: Brian Eckert: 9781560301387: Amazon.com: Books COSC takes it to satisfy the Math, plus you get three extra credits.
I finally met this requirement with SL College Algebra....it worked for me. My daughter beat college math with the book above and a bit of private tutoring.

At Charter Oak:
Beginning Algebra no Intermediate Algebra no College Algebra yes Exception: Charter Oak has a 1 semester hour in-house course MAT 100 Elementary Algebra. This applies towards your degree-wide credit hour totals, but not toward the general education requirement in math (or toward a concentration in Mathematics). At Excelsior, from the School of Liberal Arts Catalog [pdf; page 6 in the print pagination, page 14 of the full pdf], and there are probably similar policies for Excelsior's other schools: Excelsior College Wrote:Mathematics RestrictionThere may be other nuances to how Excelsior treats ALEKS credit. See the posts by creationstory and irnbru here, though note that these were posted in 2010 and Excelsior's practices may have changed.

College Algebra was always my biggest fear. I had attempted it once at a community college, and I had to withdraw and switch to a remedial course. I left the community college before I got back to the college algebra course. Years later, I attempted to take the CLEP College Algebra (cold) and failed....of course, that was probably my own fault for not studying. Some time after that, I enrolled at WGU and passed their college algebra exam with no trouble (after some preparation).
Good luck!
