I haven't been on here in a long time.....I used this board copiously back in 2007 and 2008 when I was working on my bachelor's. Well, I'm here to report that this month I have now also finished my master's degree! I got it in history through American Military University. So now both of my degrees are distance ed degrees. And I was also homeschooled K-12, so I've literally never gotten any of my education through a brick and mortar school--unless my home counts. Big Grin

Anyway, was excited and just wanted to share it. Big Grin

BUT whaaaaaat? How will you have any success without GOING to school? Will you ever know how to meet someone? Will you ever know what to do if you step outside of your home? Have you ever even been to Walmart!? You should stop the madness, what's next a "home business?" Crazy~

Smile Ha ha ha ha. Joy and celebration for you my friend!! It's been a long journey, congratulations to you and your hard work!! Smile

I went for the Military History option and chose the Civil War concentration. I've done Civil War reenacting for years, so it was an easy choice. Plus, the nice thing about the Civil War was that A) there were only two countries involved and B), they both fought in English. Big Grin

I personally enjoyed the thesis. I would have enjoyed it more if I'd had more time but my professor graciously gave me an extra week for the rough draft, which saved my hide. The thesis was challenging but fun because I could just focus on what I wanted to focus on and not be distracted with assignments I didn't care about and forum busywork. If you like to write, the thesis option is a nice choice. Hard, but doable.

Walmart? What's Walmart? That sounds scary, I don't want to go to a place like that.........

Oh, and what's funny is I really do have a home business. Three or four actually. Big Grin

Maybe someday I'll finally be socialized enough though to walk up to a stranger and say hi..........*gulp*............hilarioushilarioushilarious

I'm currently enrolled in the Ancient and Classical History track, but am still dithering over whether I want to switch to American History or not. Very difficult to decide which one because I really like both! Since I'm only taking 1 course per semester, which is all I can do now due to work, I figure I have until the end of next year to make up my mind. I've already completed Historical Research Methods and am taking Roman Republic & Empire now. I'm off for the Spring semester to take care of other commitments, but in the Summer I'm signing up for Historiography with Greek Civilization in the Fall. I figure if I do switch the 2 subject courses will work nicely as electives since the Founders drew so much inspiration from both Ancient Greece and Rome. So hard to decide which one...

I gotta admit that the thesis worries me. I almost switched schools to avoid a thesis but have decided to remain with APU because I'm enjoying the whole format. It seems really daunting of a challenge, but I have about 3 years before it'll be an issue so am putting off concerning myself over it at the moment. Heck, I never seriously thought I'd be working on a master's degree anyways and the fact I have an "A" GPA so far is really encouraging! Yet a thesis... Ugh. Ah well.

Glad it worked out so well for you. A question for you, do you know if APU has copies of previously submitted theses we can look at? I know of several universities that have placed their's online and I find those to be helpful in getting an overall idea of what to do. Thanks and again: CONGRATS!!!
