Hi,
Does TESU require a lab in the Natural Sciences? I would just as soon take SL's Nutrition and Environmental Science to get those credits as opposed to Nutrition and then the corresponding lab through Rio Salado. I'm going to earn a BA in History, not in any of the sciences (obviously!).
After the BA in History I will want to apply to WGU's Teacher's College for Post Bacc teacher prep in social science, and that does not require any science courses. However, I wonder if having a lab is a general requirement to WGU, or if my bachelor's is sufficient to get into teacher prep.
Thanks!

TESU does not require a lab (or even science courses! - you can take computer science instead if you want).
When you apply to WGU after already having a BA somewhere, they will do a block-transfer of your Gen Ed's. All that would be left would be the courses specific to the degree. And the post bacc degree has no Gen Ed's required anyway. Just 27cr of "teaching stuff."
Dumb question - why would you take this degree instead of just getting the Masters degree? Just curious, they seem exactly the same except the final 2 courses added to the masters degree.

Frankly, the way you hear about teachers working for a year or two to get their Master's, it didn't occur to me that it was such a hop-skip from the teacher certification. I will have to look into that more closely. Thanks!

That's an awesome suggestion, I didn't know it was that easy as well to get a Masters.
Would it be better get the qualification, and then take the remainder for the Masters?
You could take a look at getting your qualifications first, then do the rest.

There is literally NO difference between the post-bacc and masters except 2 extra courses.
I'm willing to bet they wouldn't even let you get the masters after you already got the post-bacc, so you'd have to then get a different masters instead.

The only difference that I know of is that you can get PELL grants (if you qualify) for post-bacc teacher certification but not for a masters. You could probably start off with the post-bacc program, using PELL grants if you qualify, and then toward the very end do a degree change to a masters and only need to take student loans for a very small portion of the degree (instead of doing the entire masters from the beginning, none of which would qualify for PELL).

I did see someone a while back who said that having a masters could make it difficult for an inexperienced teacher to get a job since the school district would have to pay more for someone with no experience. But, if your state requires a masters to become certified or your school district requires you to have a masters within a certain period of time, then I would definitely get the masters.
