Would love to connect with you all here on Linkedin. So many of us are / have been traveling a path together, that I'd like to connect and keep up. Also, I'm planning on going to the graduation in September, so it'd be great to meet some of you who are also attending. PM me if you'd like to connect!

I'm torn, as I'd appreciate the connections and there's so many great folks here, but I'm worried about giving up a layer of privacy. Hrmm...

I've always been a super private introvert. It's okay if you don't feel it. ☺️

I decided a long time ago that I was willing to sign my name to my words and opinions.
I get it though, anonymity if fun and gives people a sense of bravado they might not otherwise have if they knew people held them to their words. :coolgleam:
I've had a couple people use the veil of the internet to post unkind words to me, but I've got bigger fish to fry. Forums like this one allow you to choose "ignore" (which I didn't really do until this summer- but wow has it been refreshing) and beyond that, well, I AM a real person, so writing on a computer vs writing on paper hasn't really changed that for me.

While plenty of folks see anonymity as an excuse to be jerks, I don't believe I've used anonymity to that end here.

Research "Linked In" .
This isn't about the real people - of course we are real people = it's about a Corporation that makes Money on what We Provide.
We are the product.
That might be the point of issue, yeah?
Does the corporation take advantage of Real People? (= I think Yes.)
They provide willing parties a gift in exchange for a price = what is yours?

We are surrounded by "necessary evils" all the time. LinkedIn is a business, just like this forum or Facebook or Reddit. If we don't participate we get left behind.
Honestly, I'm not sure what your point is here.

Law enforcement jobs check social media accounts. I'm not embarrassed by anything I say online, but certain political opinions could mean that you won't get a job or will be alienated by coworkers. I used to use my real name online, but changed. It wasn't for employment purposes; I changed my online names for security purposes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping you and your family secure from stalkers and criminals trying to steal your identity.
One of the guys on the other forum was sued. He ultimately had his legal expenses paid for, but it was a long ordeal. Some people would call him brave, but all he was doing was talking about a diploma mill. If he were fighting for human rights, then I would call that brave. He was just talking about accreditation. In my opinion, that is nothing worth going to court over for a few years.
