I've been studying for the macroeconomics CLEP for a few days now. All my other tests (mostly history) have forced me to review information and just remember facts, but this one is forcing me to really think out new information. My brains feel totally fried. I took economics in high school ten years ago, so some of the basics are familiar to me, but a lot of this is new. Especially all the terminology. My test is in a week....I really hope this all comes together for me in that amount of time. What do you think? Is a week enough time to get this down pretty solid?
My biggest problem is all the graphs. I'm a very visual person, so I ought to like graphs---I can't figure out why they confuse me so much. But they do. Does anyone else have this problem or should I meekly retire in Abject Ignorance and console my Ignorant Self with some chocolate?
Trying to perservere.....

After you're finished with the chocolate ease back to work, take your time, and do not get frustrated. Use whatever resources and TIME that you need.
The standard deviant videos are a God send for both Macro and Micro. Good Luck!!

Studyhard,
Chocolate always works for me! hilarious
Seriously, I gave myself PLENTY of time to study for this one, and I think you should do the same until you feel completely comfortable with the subject. This is not one that you want to rush. Eventually it will all come together for you...once you allow yourself time to let the information really "sink in"
Good luck! We know you can do it.

I'm working on Macroeconomics finally. My plan is to work through one section of InstantCert per day. At the same time, I'm reading the macroeconomics in the 'CliffsAP Economics Micro & Macro'. I feel that the order the information is presented in the CliffsAP guide is in the same order as InstantCert. The two seem to be reinforcing one another quite nicely. After I work through all the material I'm going to start taking the Peterson's Practice Exam to sure up the weak areas. I'm shooting to take the CLEP on April 24. If I'm not comfortable by then, then I'll take it on the 1st of May.

Definitely take your time to study it. I did it. But only cause of the Standard Deviants videos, believe me, they were amazing. At first a bit annoying, but they really lay it out clearly. and I could rewind and go through it til it stuck. Then I went through and read/reviewed the REA study guide for Micro/Macro.
Good luck!

Depending on the amount of time that you can dedicate to study, I find that if I don't understand something that is conceptual or particularly difficult by the week before the test date, I pretty much fail or squeak by. So unless you operate at a higher speed, I would say at least two more weeks.
I took Macroeconomics, and it was more difficult that microeconomics for me. One really needs to be able to apply the information, and also be able to comprehend all of the terminology. However, it was not nearly as hard as accounting and my present test, Priniciple of Finance.
So in conclusion, give it some time, give it some chocolate, and some intense concentration. Best wishes!

Thanks for all the encouragement and advice, everyone. I finally got a bit of a handle on the graphs, which made everything else much clearer. (Imagine that!) I'm not all the way there yet but I feel like there's at least some light at the end of the tunnel now. I'm getting the right answers on almost all the questions on several of the IC sections--and actually getting the right answers because I thought it through logically, not because I made a, um, lucky guess. So that cheered me up too.
My test is on Tuesday....but I am open to rescheduling it. I'll play it by ear once I take the CLEP practice test and see how I score on that.
Thanks again! Just knowing there are other people out there who've done this stuff and are doing this stuff is encouraging.

I fell I'm finally ready to take the Macroeconomics CLEP. I've been over all the InstantCert material, and have 17 pages of notes to show for it. I've also read through the CliffsAP Economics section for Macroeconomics. I've taken two of the Peterson tests and scored 54% and then 65% respectively. I'll be taking the test on Tuesday and will post my results then. Wish me luck.
