Quick question for those that took College Writing for Excelsior.
#1
I have read that most people practiced on myaccess before taking the test

What kind of scores are you guys getting before taking it?

and

For me, I noticed less words is better as compare to the 500 words comments others made.

Anyone did the essays with less than 500 words?

Thanks!

Is this exam still available? I thought it was discontinued on Dec 31. 2007.

Looks like it was revised in Feb 2008, but it is available. The exam description calls it the "new" College Writing exam.

Sir Waxtor,

I started with a 4.2 and after about 15 serious attempts I got up to 5.7 (which was 579 words) . At this point I took the College Writing 3 credit exam on 4/5/08 and got a B. There are 3 essays in 3 hours (which makes the real test harder if you are not timing yourself on My Access). Only 2 of the 3 essays are graded. I am reasonably confident I got an A on the first, C on the 2nd (MLA citation needed on this essay), and an A or B on the 3rd. Whether they choose the graded essays by the highest and the lowest score or just randomly, I'm not sure. Regardless, I would not have taken the test unless I was scoring a consistent B or better on My Access (my $225 is valuable to me).

On the exam I counted the words in the first two lines, to find the ave. # of words per line, and counted the lines. I'm a slow typer so I needed a quick way to count words. Of course there is no word counter or spell checker. You can't copy and paste from the original text. However you can from your own typing (for what good that is, I do not know). Know Modern Language Association citation format. Check this website out for an explanation MLA citation style.

I was very afraid of this exam before My Access, it turned out to be quite reasonable after all.

It's funny I'm from Albany originally and I never knew of Regents or Excelsior until approximately 2-3 years ago when I saw cederic's (Joshua's) website www.123collegedegree.com which steered me here to instantcert and to the big 3. Thanks to Joshua, instantcert and Excelsior, I'll be done in 3.5 weeks, with a BS in Human Resource Management.

Best of luck,
Eric
