Need help finding Political Science courses
#1
Hello all,
I am currently a liberal studies student at TESU. Like a lot of people I have been able to complete the majority of the degree on Sophia.org and study.com. For career related reasons I am considering going for the BA in Political Science instead. I see study.com has some lower level courses for political science, but I cannot find sources for upper level political science courses anywhere. Has anyone here completed their PS degree at TESU and transferred in the upper level credits? Advice on this would be much appreciated! Part of me is also curious about the international relations degree, so if you know about that, please share.

Thanks!

where do you live ?

if you live in New York state you can take an online course at one if the SUNY (State University of New York) schools.

If you live in New York its $295 a credit. I think its $495 a credit if you're not a resident.

set the subject area to political science
set the level to upper level undergraduate

some interesting stuff there

World Politics Through Sci Fi
PLSC-380T-1
Binghamton University

This course uses speculative and fictional worlds such as the Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Dune to make the big questions of world politics concrete. The course aims to read these narratives as case studies of how power is built, alliances form, wars begin and end, and identities take shape. By translating stories into arguments and weighing them against core IR debates, students will learn to reason clearly about cooperation, conflict, legitimacy, and change.

The GetEducated list of online bachelor’s in political science ranked by price shows a few state universities which offer in-state tuition for all at less than TESU’s own course tuition. Most probably allow individual course enrollment.

You could enroll in UMPI YourPace for $1800 per 8-week session as a non-degree student, and have approximately all you can eat of their self-paced competency-based political science courses.

I don’t know how TESU accepts them, but one of the better sources of upper level Political Science courses is actually UMPI: https://catalog.umpi.edu/content.php?cat...navoid=475

I suppose that then raises the question about whether it would be better to just complete a UMPI degree. The TESU BA Political Science offers some more flexibility on social science course selection than the UMPI BA History & Political Science though, so transferring the credits could be a strategy for some. I think the biggest thing is whether International Relations would transfer. Clear that with a TESU advisor most of all.

Upper level Poli Sci courses during a UMPI session could potentially complete an AA Liberal Studies degree. They could also be as a non-enrolled student.

Also check if this is still true but supposedly Saylor University’s Introduction to Western Political Thought covered Political Theory.

We don't have any degree plans for Political Science. Unless you're a transfer student, it's probably better to attend UMPI than jump through a lot of hoops to earn that degree at TESU.

The UMPI YourPace platform now also delivers a BA in Individualized Studies, concentration in Public Policy and a BA in International and Global Studies from the University of Maine at Farmington.

Another source of a low-cost political science UL or two: Upper Iowa University via Prereqcourses.com. PS 380 Congress and the Presidency and potentially PA 430 Cases in Public Administration. Each course is $675 out of pocket, no financial aid.
