New here and I'm a planner.

Hi everyone,

So i have been creeping around for the last several hours searching for a cheaper way to get a BA and thats when i stumbled onto this wonderful little gem of a site. I was first hooked by the DIYDegree but i thought he was full of crap so I wanted to know more and low and behold here i am.

So i went onto the Wiki and DLed the excel sheet for TSU BABA for General Management and modified it into Entrepreneurship. but i figured i'd like something that would give me a milestone ahead of time and figured i'd go for a ASBA while i work for the BA.

My only questions are once i have these credits locked in for my ASBA, I can still use them for my BA right?
And the second thing is that i've never gone to an American college, that said i am an American and i am studying abroad for a degree in acupuncture. I am wondering if i can take most of these classes abroad and what are my options on taking classes online? i do travel back to the states every now and then so i guess CLEP is an option as well.

Thanks for having such a positive and encouraging community on here.

If you don't have any cost restraints then there really isn't a downside to doing both. Most people are able to complete the requirements of the BA quickly enough that getting a Associate's isn't worth the money. If your planning on completing the degree slowly then you may want to consider hitting all the requirements for the Associates first. Completing that then working on the BA.

At places like TESU, you can take your time with credits if you keep yourself enrolled and lock into a program. Otherwise you may see the program requirements change and it can ruin the entire plan. TESU has a residency waiver of $2,000 so if you want two different degree's that $4k before you even start to add other costs. However, there is reports that if you pay the waiver for your Associates, and complete the requirements of the BA within a year you don't have to pay the 2k$ again. This hasn't been confirmed or denied so we don't really know.

Once you know what you want to pursue post up on here and someone will be able to help you get started. A few of us a pretty good at time/cost estimates but of course that's up to you. Certain types of credits are much quicker then others. I would recommend once you read this get on ALEKS and try and complete College Algebra and Stats by the 31st! Its 6 credits for 20$ you can even toss in Intermediate Algebra if you have time and its 9 credits for 20$

The ASBA and BSBA from TESU are able to be fully completed online, using a combination of the methods we discuss on this forum. That was my spreadsheet you downloaded, and if it was from a fairly current post, then you should use it. It lists all the places you can take courses or exams for roughly $100 or less per course.

I personally think the ASBA from TESU is too expensive, and would instead get one from COSC if that's what you really want. TESU's $2000 residency waiver is too expensive for an ASBA, but fine for the BSBA (the overall cost of the BSBA at TESU, COSC and EC is comparable).

I was considering a degree in acupuncture for awhile ... so I'd like to chime in with a bit of advice:

Check with the college you intend on going to before you even enroll into any other school. Some have restrictions on what you can transfer and some schools also allow you to enroll with just an AA or AS degree as long as you have the required courses. Some also won't even take certain CLEP tests.

So I highly recommend you research that first and then go down from there. You can then pick a school and get help from the counselor within that school on mapping out the correct plan for you. From using self paced courses to the test there are many options but sadly , many degrees for acupuncture are very picky.

Best of luck! Smile
