Hello, I am new to all this. I will be taking my first CLEP on Monday (Eng. Comp w/ essay).
I was curious about TESC and how their programs work. What tests to they accept? What good advice do any of you have to offer?
TIA,
Stacey

English Comp with Essay was my first CLEP as well. I can't give you much advice on it except try not to go crazy waiting 3 weeks to find out your score. TESC accepts all CLEPs and DSSTs but they have to fit in your degree plan to count toward your degree. Read the specific feedback section and that is pretty much Gospel when it comes to what to expect from any given test. Good Luck.

OK, what is the main difference in and which exam do most schools prefer the comp with essay or without.
Also, when I go to take my test can I change it to just the mutli choice exam?

Most schools do require the essay. I dreaded it, but it really wasn't that bad. The worst thing is that the computer program that you write it on doesn't have spell check, thesaurus, etc. for use during the essay. That and not having any time to prep for the topic. Just make sure that you have an opening paragraph, a body, and a closing. I think that they are looking more for structure than what you actually write.
Whether or not you can change your mind about the exam depends on your test center.

Thanks for your help, I just noticed that you got a BA in Psych, that's what I am aiming for. How many of your credits were traditional versus tested? How long did it take you?

I finished in 2 years and 3 months, but I was a year into it before I found out that I could test out of most of the credits. I started out with 33 military credits that I could use toward the degree (27 free electives, 3 math, 3 speech). I took 4 guided study classes through TESC, 3 TECEPs, 1 ECE, and a bunch of CLEP and DSSTs. If I were focused from the beginning, I could have finished in about 18 months, but I took 6 months off in the middle and other breaks here and there.

Welcome Photomom4, and good luck on your first test!!
(TESC's catalog on their website Thomas Edison State College lists every exam and it's TESC equivalency if your interested. I never remember, it's on page 109 I think.)
