Hey Guys I am hoping some friendly people on here can assist me as I make a push from an Associates to a BA in Humanities at TESC. My goal is to test out of as much as possible before enrolling. Here is what I have already and at the bottom I have questions as to how to best proceed.
Gen Ed
Eng Comp 6
ENG 111 3 credits
ENG 113 3 credits
Complete
Humanities 12
HIS 121 3 credits
HIS 131 3 credits
COM 120 3 credits
MUS 110 3 credits
Complete
Social Science 12
HIS 111 3 credits
HIS 112 3 Credits
PSY 150 3 credits
POL 120 3 credits
Complete
Natural Science and Math 12 credits
CHM 131 3 credits
CHM 132 4 credits
MAT 161 3 credits
CIS 110 3 credits
Complete plus 1 credit hour
Gen Ed Electives 18
PED 125 1 credit
PED 153 1 credit
SCI 800 4 credits
DRA 111 3 credits
9 credits outstanding
Requirements
Humanities 30
PHI 210 3 credits
PHI 240 3 credits
ENG 231 3 credits
SOC 210 3 credits
18 outstanding
Liberal Arts Capstone requirement outstanding
3 outstanding
27 Free Electives
So my plan is to Take 27 hours of FEMA tests to cover the Free Electives over the next few months.
Now I have no problem finding clep tests for the outstanding 9 credit hours of GE electives but what CLEP, DSST, Straighterline, etc. can I use to knock out the 18 hours of Humanities that I need at an upper level. All will need to be 300 level or above. I am planning on enrolling in TESC at the very end of my journey to take my Capstone and as few additional classes as possible. Can someone offer some guidance on what tests I can look at?
Thank you,
David

David,
You've found the right place!
What are the underlying course titles here?
HIS 121 and HIS 131 under Gen Ed Humanities, and SOC 210 in the Humanities Area of Study, likely count towards Social Sciences, and not Humanities, at TESC. See TESC's description of humanities in the notes at the bottom of the page here. Any of these three might count as Humanities if they're interdisciplinary courses with clear and strong nexuses to the humanities in TESC's list â like History of Art, or Sociology of Religion. Otherwise, I think you'd have to move them to Gen Ed Electives.
But! What's that DRA 111 in Gen Ed Electives? That sounds like Humanities.
You might also consider a B.A. in Liberal Studies, where you could apply credit from Humanities and Social Sciences (and/or Natural Sciences and Mathematics) towards the titled area of study.
What's CIS 110? Some computer applications and concepts courses may not count towards Natural Science/Math (or Gen Ed), but some, 'computer sciencey' enough, will.
If we knew the underlying course titles we might also see something TESC might bump up to upper level, or something a DSST, etc., that might otherwise fit into a plan, might duplicate.
I believe you can put that 1 sh overflow from Natural Science and Math and put it into another appropriate category that has credits outstanding.

Jonathon thanks. I updated to my plan below to reference the Liberal Studies Degree and moved a few things around. How does it look now?
Gen Ed
Eng Comp 6
ENG 111 Expository Writing 3 credits
ENG 113 Literature Based Research 3 credits
Complete
Humanities 12
ENG 231 American Literature 1 3 credits
DRA 111 Theater Appreciation 3 credits
COM 120 Interpersonal Communication 3 credits
MUS 110 Music Appreciation 3 credits
Complete
Social Science 12
HIS 111 World Civ 1 3 credits
HIS 112 World Civ 2 3 Credits
PSY 150 General Psychology 3 credits
POL 120 American Government 3 credits
Complete
Natural Science and Math 12 credits
CHM Intro to Chem 131 3 credits
CHM 132 Organic and Biochem 4 credits
MAT 161 College Algebra 3 credits
CIS 110 Intro to Computers 3 credits
Complete plus 1 credit hour
Gen Ed Electives 18
SCI 800 Invertebrate Zoology 4 credits ( I believe this is actually a 400 level course that just shows up as Sci 800 as transfer credit but i dont have the transcript from NCSU as of yet.) Either way it is an UL Life Science so perhaps this is better off down by the Area of study portion? Thoughts?)
HIS 131 American History 1 3 credits
11 credits outstanding
Requirements
Liberal Studies 30
PHI 210 History of Philosophy 3 credits
PHI 240 Introduction to Ethics 3 credits
HIS 121 Western Civ 1 3 credits
SOC 210 Introduction to Sociology 3 credits
18 outstanding
Liberal Arts Capstone requirement outstanding
3 outstanding
Free Electives 27
PED 125 Fit and Well for Life 1 credit
PED 153 Swimming 1 credit
So my plan is to Take 25 hours of FEMA tests to cover the Free Electives over the next few months.
Now I have no problem finding clep tests for the outstanding 11 credit hours of GE electives but what CLEP, DSST, Straighterline, etc. can I use to knock out the 18 hours of Liberal Studies that I need at an upper level. All will need to be 300 level or above. I am planning on enrolling in TESC at the very end of my journey to take my Capstone and as few additional classes as possible. Can someone offer some guidance on what tests I can look at?
Also I just received another transcript... Would TESC accept these courses from a community college when i was working on my paramedic?
Bio 105 Essential Human Anatomy and Physiology 3 credits
EMS 105 Introduction to Pharmacology 3 credits

Bio A&P will count under natural sciences which overflows into gen ed electives which overflows into free electives.
Here's the thing- all degrees at TESC allow CLEP/DSST/etc. for your gen eds (60) and FEMA for free electives (27) so it's always the question about how to fill your major. I've not investigated UL humanities, but let me think on this a bit, and while I am, hopefully someone else will chime in.

The DSST World Religions counts as UL DANTES
You will open up your options by choosing liberal studies instead of Humanities...and I don't know of any benefit the humanities would have over LS.
Best,
Reb
oh and they should count your medic stuff...I would expect BIO to come in as a natural science and pharm to at least count as a free elective in the degree your pursuing. Do you have your EMT-B or Medic cert? they offer credit for those as well (at least the NJ or National registry versions).
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010
I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

OP, do you speak any foreign languages very well? If so, something like the NYU foreign language exam may offer some UL credit (check on that with TESC before testing). Doesn't BYU also have some sort of language testing for credit?

Great idea Yenisei, and BETTER YET, the NY exam awards 24 credits for a passing grade! It's cheap too, under $300 I think.
