No GPA from TESC??? How will pursue a Masters w/o a GPA??? HELP!!!!
#1
Hello Informative People,

I intend to pursue a Masters in the field of education immediately after obtaining my BS in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness from TESC. I've learned that TESC doesn't include the GPA of credits earned at other places. This worries me because 85% of my undergrad credits are from other sources, ie. Straighterline and FEMA. Is there a way to get a GPA on the transcript? Would I have to go through A.C.E.? Also, which online Universities have you guys pursued your Masters from after completing the TESC undergrad program?

The GPA is usually one of the main factors of admittance into to Masters programs.

Thanx a gazillion times over.

Ok, calm down Smile
First off- any time you transfer, typically the grades do not. So, even if you picked another university, you'd still have the same GPA dilemma.
Secondly, though you're earning a new BA degree, your prior grades are still in your history. So, once you start applying to grad schools, they will all want ALLLLLL your transcripts- that means the prior transfer credit. Your GPA will be calculated by each grad school (too generic to say, some only use your last x number of credits, some only use credits newer than x years, etc.....) and you will have a GPA.
Third, to earn grades at TESC you'll need to take classes at TESC. Many people here do not, but many do (I did) and you have that option too.
Finally, you should apply to any school you planned to apply to before you had your GPA freak out. It likely won't matter.

Good luck!

You can probably rule out Ivy League schools as options without a GPA, but many other institutions - I would almost say most - recognize that fast-track credit options such as CLEP and DSST are valid and do not come with a GPA. Each of these will have a method of evaluating your qualifications with or without a GPA from your undergraduate school. Your best bet is to put together a short list of schools you're interested in, then call and speak to someone about your credit sources. Your situation is far more common today than it was ten years ago. Most of the State schools are progressive and growing more so. They have alternative scales for situations like yours, and while it may mean you'll need to take placement tests, be admitted on a probationary status, or take prerequisite courses, there are options in place. No need to panic.

I took a total of 2 courses for 9 credits at TESC I have a GPA of 3.9 on my transcript. When I did apply to WGU for a Masters they took all of my graded classes (no matter how old if they were used for the degree) and calculated the GPA on that. DSST and CLEP do have a scale if you can find it ( I found it a while ago) of what grades on exams are recommended for B credit. If you apply to a school that is a stickler for GPA you might try to see if they will use those suggestions.

Found it for DSST here is the link

And CLEP

Colleges want your money so if you fit the basic requirements you will probably be accepted. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

This may not apply to M.Ed programs; often states set minimum GPA standards, sometimes cumulative, sometimes degree-only GPA, therefore state approved programs will not accept someone in their program unqualified to obtain a teaching license. I do agree that it should be easy to find a solution & plan accordingly.

Does putting a high GPA on your resume effect your employment opportunities as of getting an interview or hired? Do you guys think it is beneficial or no? Thank you!

MOST masters in ed programs do not lead to a teaching license. If that's the OP's goal, then a different approach is suggested.

admission standards mirroring licensing requirements is not relevant to intent.
